The Creative Media Institute at New Mexico State University is seeking a story-driven 3D Generalist with an emphasis in Modeling to add to our faculty. The ideal candidate will demonstrate excellence in teaching with an adaptability to established curricula and the ability to guide students through multiple aspects of the 3D Animation pipeline.

Generalist topics include Story Development, Sequence Design, Storyboarding, Modeling, Animation, Rigging, Shading & Texturing, and Lighting & Rendering. Ideal candidates will facilitate class critiques, project management, and submission protocols. Additional responsibilities include services such as advising and participating in committees.

Examples of classes include: Foundations of 3D Animation, 3D Modeling, 3D Rigging, History of Animation, Writing for Animation, Storyboarding, Acting for Animation.
Required Qualifications
MA or equivalent. Evidence of successful teaching is required, preferably in the areas of Animation & Visual Effects.

At least one year of university level teaching experience

Applicant portfolios should demonstrate the following:
  • Creative works: Hard surface and organic models using polygons and NURBS surfaces, an understanding of topology/retopology, and highly detailed Digital Sculpts.
  • Software Proficiencies: Autodesk Maya and Arnold Renderer, Pixologic Zbrush, and the Adobe Creative Suite.
Preferred Qualifications (optional)
MFA or other terminal degree. 1-3 years of teaching ANVE. 1-2 years Industry experience. Experience with a diverse student body similar to that of NMSU, guiding animation students through short animation productions.

Scripting in MEL or Python, familiarity in Unreal/Unity, a foundational understanding of 2D Art fundamentals, Acting, and Anatomy.
