The Special Assets Portfolio Manager is responsible for the collection and recovery, and management of past due and charge off portfolio of commercial credits. The Special Assets Portfolio Manager is responsible for portfolio management to maximize returns and collections, while at the same time helping customers to be restored to active and pass credit status through acceptable negotiation and collection activity.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- The Special Assets Portfolio Manager is responsible for managing a portfolio of highly complex accounts in support of the Team Lead and/or workout officer, relying on deep experience with collection strategies, credit analysis, loan review and/or banking industry.
- Make recommendations on proper credit structures, pricing, and making certain that workout strategies are consistent with the Bank of Southern California’s credit and risk policy.
- The Special Assets Portfolio Manager prepares approval memos (including Problem Loan Reports and impairment analysis) for assigned portfolio with well thought out recommendations on strategies and credit analysis.
- Interfaces with regional commercial managers and loan departments to detect loan problems early and to help recommend corrective action when requested to do so.
- Undertake analysis of industries and relevant peer groups to determine key industry drivers and how these affect individual market participants. Such analysis to be factored into client specific or industry wide credit reports.
- The Special Assets Portfolio Manager negotiates, prepares, and review of documentation related to transactions, such as loan documents, forbearance agreements, guarantees, and security documents.
- Responsible for the structuring of work out strategies, including negotiations with potential and existing clients.
- The Special Asset Portfolio Manager prepare foreclosure analysis. Upon approval, initiate and monitor foreclosure activities.
- Manage and dispose of OREO’s.
- Upon approval, initiates, negotiates, and implements note sale strategies.
- Monitoring the ongoing business activities and financial performance of existing clients, including financial covenant monitoring.
- Implementation of risk management and compliance procedures in accordance with Bank requirements and corporate policies.
- Maintain proper client records and an archive of client specific credit work.
- May deal with large credit exposures, more complex relationships, foreign exchange, interest rate or commodity derivatives.
- The Special Assets Portfolio Manager directly manages commercial portfolio risk on an ongoing basis by monitoring customer creditworthiness, adherence to contract loan terms and general business conditions.
REQUIRED SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
- Strong analytical skills to solve less complex as well as more difficult problems with effective solutions.
- Prior knowledge and/or experience with SBA a plus.
- Thorough working knowledge of analysis of small business, personal, financial statements and commercial and industry structure is required.
- Ability to negotiate skillfully in all situations, including situations with both internal and external groups.
- Ability to work in a team environment and foster successful working relationships.
- Ability to demonstrate diplomacy and tact when managing conflict resolution.
- Sound decision making skills based upon a mixture of both financial and economic analysis, wisdom, experience, and judgment.
- Strong understanding of financial analysis, cash flow and personal tax loan analysis, loan structuring.
Education/Licenses/Work Experience
Bachelor's degree (B. A.) from four-year College or university; or a minimum five (5) years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.

Pay: $100,000.00 - $130,000.00 per year
