PEMCCO, Inc. is an Information Technology and Information Management (IT/IM) firm providing support to DoD, Federal, State, Local and commercial customers. We are seeking a Wireless Communications Technician to work on a team in Virginia Beach, VA.
Summary/Objective
Wireless Communication Technicians provide maintenance and repairs for wireless devices. They install and resolve issues relating to various types of wireless devices, such as cellular phones and PDAs. Technicians also help develop wireless networks and solve network problems.
Essential Functions
- Supports complex networks that transmit wireless signals.
- Builds the infrastructure required for wireless communication systems.
- Maintains and repairs personal communication devices as well as wireless equipment, such as cellular phones, beepers, wireless Internet (WiFi) hotspots, and others.
- Examines and evaluates electronic equipment with the aid of measuring and diagnostic tools.
- Reports equipment failures, and creates work orders that resolve them.
- Interacts with other teams to identify existing equipment problems.
- Utilizes schematic drawings and other written specifications to address issues.
- Visits sites where wireless communications are located, and relay sites maintained by the wireless network.
- Assists in installing and setting up wireless and new telecommunication services and must ensure that the equipment and circuit installations are of the best quality.
- Implements as per design, as well as propose changes for effective project delivery.
- Conducts periodic maintenance of personal communication devices and wireless networks.
- Advises customers on whether to replace wireless communication devices or repair them.
- Devises plans to design and review engineering services, both in the office and in the field.
- Provides necessary support in all areas related to wireless communications and assists in client management.
- Deals with project-specific telecommunication and wireless services and assists in the creation of permits, contracts, schedules, estimates, data collections, construction surveys, and other tasks.
- All other duties as assigned.

- Analytical skills – ability to research, identify, and resolve any technical issues of wireless communications systems including troubleshooting for hardware, software, or electronic problems
- Communication skills – communicate ideas effectively and know how to prepare reports and logs; be a patient listener and understand information and ideas presented. Handle a variety of customer service issues in a confidential manner.
- Must have a proper understanding of broadband technologies, electronics, and mobile systems.
- Be able to understand and interpret technical design documents and other related information.
Education
Associate’s degree in Telecommunications, Network Engineering, or related discipline
Experience
- Have a good understanding of complex equipment operations and advanced computer skills.
- Have adequate training to perform diagnostic work and maintenance of the equipment.
Useful Certifications - Cisco Certified Network Associate Wireless (CCNA Wireless)
- Cisco Certified Network Professional Wireless (CCNP Wireless)
- CompTIA Network+· Certified Wireless Network Administrator (CWNA)
- Certified Wireless Security Professional (CWSP)
Preferred Education and Experience - Bachelor’s degree in Telecommunications, Network Engineering, or related discipline
Supervisory Responsibility - None

- The work environment will be a typical office setting inside a building; or telework environment.

Physical Demands
- The job requires sitting at a desk using a computer. Some basic lifting of computer equipment, paper, binders, etc. is required. Bending may be required to utilize a copier/printer. Typing/data entry is required.
- While performing the required duties, team members are regularly required to sit; talk or hear, both in person and by telephone; and use hands repetitively to operate, finger, handle or feel office equipment; and reach with hands and arms.
- Employees are frequently required to stand and walk and to lift and carry records and documents weighing less than 20 pounds.
- Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision and the ability to adjust focus.
