Position Description

POSITION TITLE: Communications Associate

LOCATION: District Office

REPORTS TO: Family and Community Engagement Liaison

PRIMARY FUNCTION: The role of the Communications Associate is to further the district’s strategic plan in all areas, and especially in Family and Community Engagement, by implementing strategic communication strategies to help the district improve external communications with the North Chicago community.

Licensure:
a. None required

Education:
a. Required – Bachelor's Degree in related field

b. Preferred – Master’s Degree in related field

Experience:
a. Required – Two (2) years of prior successful communications experience.

b. Required – Familiarity with, and extensive use of, social media platforms

ESSENTIAL PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:

● Designs and provides print and social media updates about district events and initiatives for the community at large.

● Develops and implements communications strategies to improve the district’s perception in the community and tell the district’s story of success.

● Utilizes, creatively and fluidly, a variety of communication strategies that meet the needs of the intended audience.

● Collaborates across district departments to gather information for communications.

● Supports the improvement of communication between departments and schools in the district.

● Supports the Superintendent’s office with crisis communications.

● Supports school leaders in the facilitation of school communication committees working to tell the school’s story to parents of children in that school.

● Able to manage and update digital platform information about the district, providing easy access to information for parents.

OTHER PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:

● Participates in meetings, workshops and seminars for the purpose of conveying and/or gathering information required to perform functions.

● Performs other related duties as assigned for the purpose of ensuring the efficient and effective functioning of the work unit.

● Presents concepts, status, and information to a variety of groups for the purpose of gaining the required administrative and board approvals, providing progress reports to Administration and/or advising staff of potential outgoing communication.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

Manual Dexterity: Work requires definite skilled and accurate physical operations requiring some closely coordinated performance.

Physical Effort: Work required handling average weight materials or equipment, but not for sustained periods.

Working Conditions: The usual and customary methods of performing the job's functions require the following physical demands: some lifting, carrying, pushing, and/or pulling, and significant fine finger dexterity. Generally, the job requires 80% sitting, 10% walking, and 10% standing. This job is performed in a generally clean and healthy environment.

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT: 11 month position; Non-exempt

SALARY RANGE: Commensurate with education and experience, including benefits package
