The Controller will be responsible for Subregion reporting and review within Property Accounting. The position will oversee a team of 3+ Property Accountants including review of monthly variances and work papers. The Controller will review and approve all assignments related to their assigned subregion and will ensure that deadlines are met in an accurate and timely manner. They will be responsible for the completeness and accuracy of all properties assigned and will contribute to month end deliverable reporting.
- Provide monthly Subregion reporting to VP.
- Ensure accuracy of revenue and expenses and provide commentary for region level reporting.
- Ensure completeness and completion of monthly tasks and property assignments.
- Review acquisition and disposition related entries as needed.
- Work closely with VP on Same Store reporting.
- Oversee subregion communication of information from Property Accounting to Operations Team.
- Assist with monthly and quarterly deliverables.
- Address any questions provided by supervisor or clients on assigned portfolios in a timely manner.
- Coordinate collection of information for internal and external auditors.
- Work with Lease Administration and property management as needed on tenant inquiries.
- Work with IT to resolve any technical issues.
- Establish monthly reporting calendar ensuring deadlines are clearly documented and met.
- Ensure that CAM reconciliations are accurate and that the company is being reimbursed for expenses as allowed by each lease.
- Hiring of staff as needed.
- Communicate departmental policies and procedures to staff.
- Provide training and guidance to staff as needed.
- Ensure timely reconciliation of all assigned accounts.
- Ensure proper classification of all expenses for reporting purposes.
- Review straight-line rent of tenants on assigned portfolios.
- Coordinate any special projects as the need arises.
- BA/BS required; Accounting degree preferred.
- CPA/MBA preferred.
- 6+ years’ experience working in real estate or with real estate related companies.
- Public Accounting experience a plus.
- Detail oriented, analytical, strong organizational skills, proven ability to meet deadlines, works well under pressure and possess the ability to manage people and time efficiently and prioritize effectively.
- Excellent Microsoft Excel Skills.
- Experience with Yardi a plus.
