Position Overview

The Controller reports directly to the Senior Finance Director. This position is responsible for handling all aspects of finance and accounting for a rapidly growing engineering construction company delivering large scale, pre-construction programming, management and integration of off-site fabrication and modularization. The Controller is a critical member of the management team interacting with the department managers throughout the business and helping to drive business initiatives and representing finance in all business decision making.

Essential Functions and Responsibilities

Execute/oversee all accounting transactions to properly reflect revenue recognition and income according to International Financial Report Standards (IFRS) guidelines including:

  • Percentage of Completion (POC) accounting revenue recognition
  • Time and materials revenue recognition
  • Prepare timely and accurate month end financial statements, including account analysis.
  • General Ledger and trial balance oversite, posting monthly journal entries & other adjustments as necessary.

Prepare reports and summaries for managers and perform project cost analysis including.

  • Margin Analysis Report: Pattern Day Trader (PTD) margin, Adjusted Margin, & Sold as Margin.
  • With the assistance of the PM, prepare variance analysis and explanations for management.
  • DL utilization reports and balance sheet ratio analysis Day Sales Outstanding (DSO) and Days Payable Outstanding (DPO).
  • Monitor accounts receivable and collections; establish and manage customer credit limits.
  • Prepare comprehensive detailed annual P&L, cash flow, balance sheet and capital spending budgets.
  • Prepare detailed financial forecast updates on a monthly or quarterly basis as needed.
  • Oversee ERP system to ensure it is used accurately by upstream and downstream users and participate in selection, implementation, training and monitoring of future systems.
  • Assist Parent Company Corporate Controller and Parent CFO with various assignments.
  • Support financial audits, bank audits and prepare sales and use and other tax related filings.
  • Work closely with Purchasing and Inventory Control staff to ensure accuracy of perpetual inventory, both units and costs.
  • Supervise two full-time employees.

Education and Experience Requirements

  • Minimum two-year business degree and four or more years accounting experience including A/R, A/P, general accounting or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Strong knowledge of accounting principles and prior accounting in a manufacturing environment with POC Revenue Recognition.
  • Demonstrated exceptional written and verbal communication skills.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office tools.
  • Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals.
  • Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from small and large groups.
  • Ability to apply mathematical skills and analyze performance trends in data; Demonstrated experience applying structured problem-solving and decision-making tools and methods.
  • Ability to analyze financial information, identify discrepancies and provide solutions; Ability to identify problems, collect information, establish facts, and suggest solutions; Ability to develop and support conclusions.
  • Travel is not required but may be necessary from time to time to visit the site(s) and meet with the Project Manager(s).
