Controller Job at Served With Honor
Position Summary:
The Controller will be responsible for leading and managing all finance & accounting functions within the organization. This is a hybrid role where you will support the Executive team on all business reviews; maintain, manage, and analyze financial statements, manage budgets across multiple departments and divisions, and manage tax compliance issues. You will also forecast future needs so informed decisions can be made to improve company performance.
Supervisory Responsibilities:
Supervises a total of 9 employees in the Finance & Accounting department. Responsible for the overall direction, coordination, and evaluation of these employees. Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization's policies and applicable laws. Responsibilities include interviewing, hiring, and training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems.

Contribute to development of financial strategy, including risk minimization plans and opportunity forecasting.

Evaluate and advise on the impact of long-range planning, introduction of new programs/strategies and regulatory action(s).

Enhance and/or develop, implement, and enforce financial policies and procedures of the organization through systems that will improve the overall operation and effectiveness of the organization.

Develop a reliable cash flow projection process and reporting mechanism that includes minimum cash threshold to meet operating needs.

Continual improvement of the budgeting process through education of department managers on financial issues impacting their budgets.

Provide staff training in the areas of budget development, budget management, fiscal accountability, finance procedures and more. Develops employees for future advancement when possible.

Set targets for and supervise all accounting and finance personnel (accountants, internal auditors, financial analysts, etc.).

Develop and maintain timely and accurate financial statements and reports that are in accordance with generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP).

Perform month-end and year-end closing activities including general ledger maintenance and balance sheet reconciliations.

Conduct analysis to make forecasts and prepare timely and detailed reports on financial performance on a monthly, quarterly, and annual basis.

Organize & review of transactions and support for federal, state, local, and special tax returns.

Pro-active oversight of accounts receivable and collections, make recommendations on process enhancements and bad debt reduction.

Oversee and maintain the company’s NetSuite and other finance IT systems.

Lead & assist with annual audit preparations, as appropriate.

Coordinate external relationships.

Perform other accounting duties and lead finance and accounting staff as required or assigned.

Ensure compliance with statutory law and financial regulations.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
-
Working knowledge of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles, direct working knowledge of manual and automated accounting systems, and well-developed financial analysis capabilities

In-depth knowledge of corporate finance and accounting principles, laws and best practices

Solid knowledge of financial analysis and forecasting

Extensive knowledge of financial management software (NetSuite)

Proficient in the use of MS Office, particularly Excel
-
An analytical and mathematical mind with a strategic ability
-
Excellent organizational and leadership skills
-
Outstanding communication and interpersonal abilities
-
BA in accounting, finance or relevant field; MA is a plus
-
CPA or other relevant qualification is a plus
Required Qualifications:
-
Bachelor’s degree in accounting or finance
-
10+ years’ experience in finance/accounting
-
3+ years of finance/accounting management experience with proven leadership skills
-
2+ years’ experience in finance/accounting management in a multi-company/multi- location environment

Thorough knowledge of Generally Accepted Accounting Practices (GAAP)

Must be able to bring your own home office set-up and equipment to the role to include computer or laptop with functional camera & audio, as well as high-speed, reliable internet
Preferred Qualifications:

Bachelor’s degree in accounting

CPA or other relevant qualifications
Physical Demands:

Ability to stand, sit, use of hands to handle, feel, or reach with hands and arms

Ability to lift and/ or move up to 25 pounds
