Position Summary


Manage the strategic narrative for Merchandising. This includes strategic messages for the Merchandising team, Board of Directors, investors, presidents, quarterly reviews, and Fresh Forward. Meets with SVPs/EVPs/VPs to understand and synthesize their vision into actionable building blocks. Lead the design and articulation of strategic concepts, frameworks, and presentations to support the delivery and accountability of merchandising's goals. Leads the OKR process for the Merchandising workstream. Demonstrate the company's core values of respect, honesty, integrity, diversity, inclusion, and safety.

Essential Job Functions

  • Lead the OKR process for the Merchandising workstream by working with Merchandising EVP, GVPs, VPs and Directors to ensure OKRs support Kroger's long-term growth ambitions
  • Lead Merchandising deliverables for key events such as the annual category managers meeting, presidents' meetings, board of directors' meetings, and investor relations meetings
  • Manage the strategic narrative for Merchandising
  • Meet with SVPs/EVPs/VPs to understand and synthesize their vision into actionable building blocks, ensure the right measurements are used to determine success, and ensure messaging reflects the desired narrative
  • Ensure processes and check-points are in place to ensure leadership/stakeholders are aligned with progress
  • Supports VPs to gain leadership and stakeholder alignment for OKR success criteria
  • Plan and execute a strategic communications roadmap ensuring period, quarterly, and annual reporting leads to the desired outcomes
  • Support the delivery and accountability of achieving Merchandising's strategic goals by implementing the cadence of reporting, deliverables, and communications needed to support the Merchandising narrative of its strategic approach, objectives, and key results
  • Design and implement the supporting frameworks, measurements, and templates that are simple to complete, easy to the understand, and are predictive of success
  • Lead the period, quarterly, and annual deliverables for departments to create insightful progress updates of the most important strategic initiatives/objectives

Minimum Position Qualifications

  • 2+ years successfully delivering results in Merchandising as a level 11 or higher (if internal), or equivalent experience in Operations, Digital, or 84.51
  • 2+ years of experience with analyzing customer, merchandising and financial data
  • Proven leadership skills to delegate, motivate, and hold cross-functional teams accountable
  • Excellent communication and presentation skills to effectively communicate information to all levels within the organization
  • Proven analytical skills and ability to synthesize analysis into compelling written/visual communications
  • Proven creative skills and ability to transform complex ideas into easily understood concepts
  • Demonstrated process improvement skills and ability to develop, re-engineer and document new processes.
  • Proven skill and ability to develop effective objectives and key results
  • Proven track record of delivering objectives on time and in full
  • Demonstrated project management and facilitation skills that drive projects forward quickly
  • Demonstrated ability of being results oriented setting high goals for personal and group accomplishment: using measurement methods to monitor progress toward goal attainment

Desired Previous Experience/Education

  • Bachelor's Degree
  • 2+ years of experience in leading and delivering large and/or complex projects/programs
  • 2+ years of experience with multiple departments in Merchandising
