Position Highlights
This is an on-call, seasonal position. This position is for an Assistant Cook with experience in all areas of food service delivery. This position will cook and provide delicious and nutritious meals and snacks for campers and guests. Will work closely with all James 4-H staff while providing the highest level of food service, hospitality, and customer service to all Camp participants.

The James 4-H Outdoor Learning Center is a property of the University of Arizona that offers modern facilities that are clean and comfortable. Our 124-bed camp has modern heated cabins with restrooms and shower facilities easily accessible. We offer a spacious dining hall, patio, fire pit, and various activity areas for programming and a spacious lawn for play and learning. Additionally, the camp is surround by national forest which provides us with many additional educational spaces from forest to a perennial stream. The camp season is typically from May 1 - August 1 of each year.

Duties & Responsibilities

A. Cooking and food preparation

  • Cooking, serving, and customer service.
  • Keep all working areas clean and organized in compliance with Health Department standards.
  • Check and control the proper storage of product and leftovers.


B. Kitchen cleanliness and food safety

  • Assist with dishwashing and stocking of supplies.
  • Cleaning food preparation areas, cooking surfaces, and utensils.
  • Support in keeping the kitchen clean during a busy shift.
  • Set up the kitchen ready for a smooth shift.
  • Maintain sanitation, health, and safety standards


Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Knowledge of the fundamentals of cooking.
  • Knowledge of kitchen equipment.
  • Knowledge of sanitation and safety regulations.
  • Ability to understand and comply with Health Department standards.

Minimum Qualifications
  • High school diploma or equivalent, or equivalent learning attained through experience required.
  • Prior work experience not required.
