Corporate "Transportation" Logistics Manager Job at Eddie Kane Steel Products

The company motto has always been to "Treat others as you would have them treat you" and we are in search of a full time Corporate Logistics Manager at our corporate offices located in Sea Girt, New Jersey.
General Description: The Corporate Logistics Manager is responsible for planning and directing all aspects of commercial transportation management. Primary Responsibilities include 1) carrier management-carrier sourcing, contract negation, coordination, and shipment of product; 2) Fleet management- manage and grow a small internal fleet of power units and drivers; 3) Shipping & Receiving SOP- work with management team members to update and improve standard operating procedures.
Duties and Responsibilities:
· Management of internal and external transportation companies to meet services and cost expectations.
· Develop and implement a comprehensive logistics strategy.
· Define and implement appropriate freight and on-time delivery metrics.
· Manage relationship with carriers and vendors. Source new carriers to improve coverage, service and freight spend.
· Leverage companywide freight volume to maximize freight savings.
· Communicate with management and sales team to relay updates in the freight industry such as pricing changes, availability, challenges and opportunities.
· Manage rail transportation through 3PL for rail, identify potential savings by internally managing rail transportation.
· Manage a small fleet of power units and drivers. Work to maximize route efficiencies, monitor and reduce operating costs and ensure we deliver the level of service our customers are expecting.
· Review financial reports for the internal fleet.
· Research and identify opportunities to grow the internal fleet at all Eddie Kane Steel facilities.
· Ensure the specifications of new power units are appropriate for the route/scope of their respective region.
· Ensure the fleet is up to date on all compliance and safety regulations (DOT, FMCSA, etc.)
· Work with quality management and respective plant managers to develop and improve the SOP for the internal fleet operations
· Hire, train, and supervise logistics personnel.
· Work with plant managers to ensure our loading and unloading procedures are adequate and safe.
· Review BOL and additional shipping documentation. Ensure the appropriate shipping terms and conditions are in place and enforced.
· Continuously monitor new technology and trends in the logistics industry.
· Prepare reports and correspondence.
· Perform other duties as required.
Required Knowledge and Skill Set:
· Minimum five years’ experience in a logistics role (Preferred)
· Experience overseeing and managing a logistics department (Preferred)
· Experience working with class 1 railroads, 3PL, trucking companies for both flatbed and van transportation (Preferred)
· Working knowledge of standard DOT concept, regulations, practices, and procedures
· Working knowledge of Microsoft office product.
· Solid experience and understanding of tracking software/dispatching software
· Comprehensive leadership skills
· Proficiency in the use of the English language in reading, writing and speaking
· Excellent listening and comprehension skills
· Confident speaking to vendors, employee groups and executive management
· Ability to build a team of strong individuals
· Ability to successfully interact with all organization levels and the public
· Ability to manage several activities/projects at once, to organize and prioritize work to meet deadlines to prepare plans, goals, and budgets.
· Ability to be mobile in the work environment and travel as required
· Be a team player and support company goals.
Education/Experience:
· Associates or Bachelors degree (preferred)
· Prior manufacturing and computer experience (preferred)
· Prior Production supervisory or management experience (preferred)
· Prior business experience (required)
