It is critical that the candidate has the ability to perform research and analysis to solve a wide range of problems in corrosion science related to aerospace coatings and alloys, such as aluminum, nickel, and titanium.

The candidate will be able to analyze possible solutions and make recommendations for process improvement and extract information from existing databases or literature to perform reviews.

The candidate will be able to perform process/product development and testing and assessing chemical processes related to electrochemistry.

Experience with corrosion prediction and modeling software tools is desirable.

The candidate will interface with the Air Force Research Lab (AFRL), Department of Defense (DOD), Department of Energy (DOE) and NASA customers & technical community to seek, secure and execute contracts as related to corrosion engineering.

Candidate should be familiar with working protocols in a chemical laboratory.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Electrochemical parameter setup and testing including the use of potentiostats & corrosion chambers.

  • Troubleshooting and identifying corrosion related problems.

  • Understanding and related experience with electrochemical corrosion protection coatings, such as: electroplating, anodizing, electroless plating, CVD, PVD, paints, and other corrosion resistant coatings.

  • Practical laboratory experience in the following: characterization/metallography (sectioning, mounting, polishing, microscopy), wet chemistry, and optical microscopy.

  • Must have a deep knowledge of the fundamental physics and chemistry surrounding corrosion & oxidation mechanisms and understand the impact of chemistry, processing and environment on material performance and durability.

  • Identify, develop, and validate novel testing protocols as well as modeling capabilities to better predict component durability (i.e., corrosion resistance) in the various field environments that our gas turbine engines operate.

  • Experience in testing, characterization, and data analysis of different environmental contaminants at different temperatures as related to corrosion & oxidation on aerospace materials.

  • Ability to work independently with minimal management supervision or direction.

  • Ability to effectively communicate and team with a wide variety of individuals from technicians to executive level staff.

  • Ability to be flexible with organizational workload demands and changing requirements.
