KIPP Forward
- The KIPP Forward program is designed to assist KIPP SoCal students & alumni from middle school, high school, and beyond. Through advising, programming, and resources, our program supports students & alumni as they navigate each stage of their educational journey toward their chosen career path. In 2022-2023, the KIPP Forward team supported over 2,100 middle school students and 7,000 high school and college-aged alumni.
What You'll Do
- The KIPP Forward Counselors specializing in Postsecondary Match support KIPP SoCal alumni in high school as they explore, identify, and matriculate to a postsecondary path. Through both individual outreach and collaboration with high schools, KIPP Forward Counselors provide advising, programming, and hands-on application support to alumni throughout the region.
- This role is based out of KIPP Adelante Preparatory Academy in San Diego; with the expectation of the counselor working from the school site 2-3 times per week.
Alumni Support & Relationship-Building
- Provide 1:1 and group advising for a caseload of approximately 120 alumni, both juniors and seniors
- Expose and guide alumni toward postsecondary options that align with their interests and goals
- Provide resources and hands-on support for alumni as they prepare for and complete postsecondary, scholarship, and specialized program applications
- Foster and maintain meaningful relationships with alumni, parents/guardians, and high school counselors
- Work collaboratively with team of KIPP Forward Counselors to information share and problem solve
Data & Programming
- Input and track data using the Alumni Database and regional data systems
- Make data-based decisions to drive outreach, programming, and advising
- Plan and execute college & career-focused programming, such as application events, college-readiness workshops, socials, and parent workshops
You’ll be qualified if you have
- Unquestioned commitment to educational equity, youth, and KIPP SoCal’s mission
- Bachelor’s degree and at least one-year experience providing direct advising to high school students
- Familiarity with the challenges and opportunities for first-generation college students
- Strong interpersonal, oral, and written communication skills, the ability to connect authentically with people from diverse backgrounds
- Flexibility and a solution-oriented mindset
- Ability and willingness to travel to school sites within San Diego
- Flexibility to work evening hours and weekends as necessary

- Hourly rate for this role ranges from $25-$26 per hour. This is a full-time, non-exempt role.
