Offering more than 100 certificate, associate and bachelor’s degree programs, Daytona State College (DSC) has responded to the education and workforce training needs in our region for more than 60 years. The college enrolls nearly 25,000 students annually at its seven instructional sites, with graduates serving in critical fields including health care, emergency services, business, education, hospitality, engineering, technology and more.

We currently have an opportunity to join our team of talented and diverse Faculty and Staff as a Custodian/Maintenance Specialist.

Required Qualifications: This position requires a GED or High School Diploma and two (2) years or more of recent and verifiable work experience in custodial and general maintenance. Candidate must possess a valid Florida Driver’s license and have their own transportation to report to other College locations as assigned. Candidate must be forklift certified within one year of employment.

This is a full-time, non-exempt position with an hourly rate of $15.15 with an approximate annual amount of $31,500.

Working Hours: Normal working hours are 2:30 p.m. to 11:00 p.m., Monday through Friday, however, various shifts and locations may be assigned based on the needs of the College. Candidates must be able to report for additional hours, weekends, evenings, and/or holidays as needed and/or required. Candidate may be required to work at college campuses other than the campus assigned on an as needed basis.

Key Responsibilities:

• Cleans glass, chrome and exits in all classrooms, labs, amphitheater, lecture rooms, conference rooms, gymnasiums, etc. Clean all chalkboards, blackboards, whiteboards, and erasers daily. Pick up and remove all trash from same areas. Remove trash from exterior receptacles and parking lots.
• Damp and wet mop vinyl and tile floors. Vacuums floors and carpets. Performs floor maintenance such as stripping, and waxing, buffing, etc., in assigned areas as directed. Must be familiar with commercial scrubbers, buffers, and automatic floor machines.
• Performs high and low dusting of furniture, desks, chairs, windowsills, doors, railings, etc. (or other items as directed).
• Cleans, maintains, and safeguards all equipment. Keeps janitorial closets clean, neat, and organized.
• Perform light plumbing (toilets, urinals, sinks, drains), light electrical (bulbs, ballasts), and general maintenance (hang pictures, install dispensers, replace ceiling tiles, clean sidewalks/pressure washing, etc.)
• Turn off all lights and secure doors. Enter work requests for repair issues and report system failures to supervisor for proper notification and attention.
• Work overtime or additional hours for scheduled concerts, plays, recitals, lectures, special events, and functions, to include all set up, strike and storage of required materials and equipment.
• Drives college vehicles when necessary to retrieve/ return supplies, equipment, tools, etc. Must possess a valid Florida Driver’s License.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities: This position requires medium work that involves walking, standing, stooping, stretching, pushing, pulling, reaching and lifting all of the time, exerting up to 50 pounds of force on a recurring basis. This position will experience exposure to indoor and outdoor temperatures. Candidate must be able to follow oral and/or written communications. Candidate should also have computer knowledge to be able to clock in/out and view other personnel related information (i.e., paycheck, W-2, etc.).
