Job Description:

Summary

The admissions department is seeking qualified candidates for a Data Analyst I/II position.

Data Analyst I/II will create reports and conducts analysis using a variety of data sources and tools ( e.g. Cognos 11, Docfinity , MS Excel, Tableau, Salesforce, SPSS, Stata, Workday, etc.); compiles institutional data for internal and external reports and data submissions including, but not limited to, the Board of Regents, State of Iowa; maintains and creates new data visualizations and reports for administrators and the university community; prepares reports and analysis of institutional data and survey results; providing support in compiling, managing and analyzing data to inform University policy discussions; and responds to ad hoc requests from constituents across campus. Data Analyst I/II will also implement research and data analytics to guide lead generation.

This position will be filled at the I level or II level.

The Data Analyst I position has minimum required qualifications of a Bachelor’s degree and is a PS807 pay level.

The Data Analyst II position has minimum required qualifications of a Bachelor’s degree and 3 years of related experience and is a PS808 pay level.

This is a two-year term position.

Example of Duties

  • Gathers operational data to examine past organization performance.
  • Assist in the preparation, cleansing, and verification of data.
  • Perform basic data manipulation and analysis techniques.
  • Develops and analyzes organizational data to quantify the competitive performance of business segments, evaluate potential operational changes, and design new approaches and methodologies.
  • Applies and integrates statistical, mathematical, predictive modeling and business analysis skills to manage and manipulate high volume data from a variety of sources.
  • Recommends actions for future developments & strategic business opportunities, as well as enhancements to operational policies.
  • May be involved in exploratory data analysis, confirmatory data analysis and/or qualitative analysis.
  • Respond to ad-hoc requests from constituents across campus
  • Provide support to staff in collecting and refining data and report request requirements
  • Serve as primary day-to-day contact for EAB and other data vendors, such as College Board and ACT/Encoura
  • Coordinate meetings and serve as a project manager for lead generation activities/programs
  • Assist in managing contracts with data vendors
  • Participate in trainings by vendors and share with other staff members when appropriate
  • Access data vendor portals, review data and alert administrators to data trends or changes
  • Utilize vendor portals to develop name purchase scenarios and conduct buys, as directed
  • Advise on budget for lead generation services and programs
  • Research potential vendors and provide recommendations for beneficial partnerships to explore
  • Provide support to college and program partners across campus in lead generation activities and programs
  • Assist with various projects and data analysis for Workday Student implementation
  • Perform other duties and projects as assigned
