Northrop Grumman Mission Systems (NGMS) is seeking candidates for the position of Data Science Systems Data Science Engineering Manager 2 in the Transformational Computing Operating Unit within the Network Information Solutions (NIS) division. This position will be located in Linthicum/ Baltimore/ Annapolis Junction, MD.

What You'll Get To Do:

This is a dual-role technical manager position. Management duties will require tasking and coordination of approximately 8-12 engineers, and process and resource co‐ordination with functional homeroom management. The manager will also be expected to perform technical work on programs. It is anticipated that given the size of the functional team, the split between program and functional duties will be approximately 80/20, on average. The direct program work for this position requires experience as a data scientist.

Key roles and responsibilities include:

  • Work with team technical leads and Subject Matter Experts (SMEs) to define requirements.
  • Effective communication with program management and technical leads.
  • Work with Talent Acquisition, technical staff, and functional management to screen candidates, set up interviews, collect feedback, and assist in determining whether to make offers.
  • Administrative management responsibilities including technical tasking, performance evaluation, career development, and salary planning.
  • Execute in a direct contributor role on the program as a data scientist.
  • Strong problem solving skills and root-cause analysis to ensure that curated data is accurate, repeatable, and explainable.
  • Development /programming of tools to improve pipeline efficiency, eliminate repetitive tasks, and implement new analysis tools/techniques.
  • Ability to create and present data reports to support investigations.

This position requires work onsite in either Linthicum, MD or Annapolis Junction, MD facilities.

Basic Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Science, Technology, Engineering, or Mathematics (STEM) with 9+ years of experience within a related engineering field.
  • Strong leadership qualities, including excellent communication and collaboration, team engagement, and organizational skills.
  • Knowledge of data gathering, cleansing and transformation techniques
  • Experience with common data science toolkits such as Python and Tableau
  • Experience using Python packages: pandas, numpy, matplotlib
  • Experience developing and presenting data visualizations for scientific analysis
  • US Citizenship is required.
  • Able to obtain and maintain a TS/SCI clearance with polygraph per business requirements.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Master’s degree in engineering, Business Management, Engineering Leadership, or equivalent.
  • 12 years of experience in a multi-disciplined engineering environment.
  • Demonstrated success leading high performance teams as technical, integrated product team, and/or functional leader.
  • Product Lifecycle experience
  • Proficient using query languages such as SQL
  • JMP proficiency (SAS statistical tool) and experience scripting in JSL
  • MATLAB experience
  • Current, active Top Secret clearance and/or SCI with CI or FS polygraph.
  • Experience leading teams in a functional, programmatic, or technical capacity.

This position reports to Linthicum, MD, USA, however, this position can also be worked from Annapolis Junction, MD, MD, USA.



Salary Range: $141,100 USD - $211,700 USD


Employees may be eligible for a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results. Employees in Vice President or Director positions may be eligible for Long Term Incentives. In addition, Northrop Grumman provides a variety of benefits including health insurance coverage, life and disability insurance, savings plan, Company paid holidays and paid time off (PTO) for vacation and/or personal business.
