Under the supervision of a licensed dentist, the dental assistant assists in supportive oral procedures and assists during the examination and treatment of dental patients by preparing and arranging dental instruments and equipment; Sets-up dental equipment and supplies, takes and uploads dental x-rays, makes entries on examination and treatment, and assists the dentist in both the operating room and in hospital setting.

Must perform all duties and responsibilities in accordance with the Service Standards of the Hospital(s).
Performs extra-oral duties or basic supportive procedure specified by the supervising licensed dentist.
Prepares trays and instruments needed for various dental procedures.
Takes intraoral impressions for all non-prosthodontic appliances.
Places, wedges, and removes matrices for restorative procedures.
Removes dressings after inspection of the surgical site by the supervising licensed dentist.
Obtains dental x-rays and uploads them into patient charts as ordered by dentist.
Assists Dentist in the Operating Room as well is Inpatient / Outpatient settings.
Communicates with patients / parents to coordinate basic supportive procedures, appointments, care plans, and compile patient intake
Manages dental supplies as needed.
Orders and stocks dental supplies as needed.
Prepares materials and assist the dentist during procedures.
Takes and records medical and dental histories.
Takes and uploads dental x-rays as ordered by dentist
Applies sealants, coronal polishing, and fluoride application.
Sterilizes and disinfects instruments, clean dental carts, and set up instrument trays.
Charts existing restorations and any missing teeth.
Places and removes rubber dams and rubber dam clamps and ligations.
Takes impressions for models.
Applies topical anesthetic agents under dentist supervision.
Schedules outpatient appointments and OR cases.
Reviews charts and schedules for the upcoming week to ensure all information needed is available and all coordination with other specialties has been communicated.
Orders and stocks dental supplies as needed.
Minimum Qualifications
Any combination of education and experience that would likely provide the required knowledge, skills and abilities as well as possession of any required licenses or certifications is qualifying
Education: High School Diploma or GED equivalent from an accredited school.
Experience: Three (3) years of progressively responsible and directly related work experience as a dental assistant.
License/Certification: Current American Heart Association (AHA) Certification for Basic Life Support (BLS) for Healthcare Providers.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
These are the observable and measurable attributes and skills required to perform successfully the essential functions of the job and are generally demonstrated through qualifying experience, education, or licensure/certification.
Knowledge of materials needed to be prepped to assist in various dental procedures
Knowledge of protocols regarding sterilization and disinfection of instruments, dental cart sanitation, and set up of instrument trays
Knowledge of chart review, dental terms, tools, equipment.
Knowledge of Operating Room protocols during procedures
Ability to notate/ assist in charting patient history, both medical and dental, including existing restorations and any missing teeth
Ability to cultivate relationships with team in both outpatient and inpatient setting for the care of mutual patients.
Ability to coordinate with both outpatient appointments and OR/OSC procedures
Ability to communicate effectively - with parents and patients
Ability to work as a team player and care for the patients at the highest possible standards
Order and replenish supplies as needed
Skill in applying topical anesthetic agents under dentist supervision
Skill in X-Ray machine usage
Skill in taking impressions for models
Skill in placing and removing rubber dams and rubber dam clamps and ligations
Skill of complex schedule ownership to ensure all information needed is available for visits / procedures
Skill in sealant application, coronal polishing, and fluoride application
Knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Outlook), EPIC, Dolphin, PeopleSoft, X-Ray Machine, and additional software as needed

Pay Range
Compensation is based on the level and requirements of the role.
Salary within our ranges may also be determined by your education, experience, knowledge, skills, location, and abilities, as required by the role, as well as internal equity and alignment with market data.
Typically, new team members join at the minimum to mid salary range.
Minimum to Midpoint Range (1.0 FTE): $61,214.40 to $69,430.40
