Departmental Overview

The University Development and Alumni Relations (UDAR) department strengthens Berkeley's excellence through engagement with alumni, parents, undergraduates and graduate students, and friends of the university, raising public awareness about Berkeley and increasing private philanthropy. UDAR provides overall direction for the campus's philanthropic advancement strategies and works to strengthen development with campus fundraisers.

The Office of Annual Programs is the university's largest fundraising department and is responsible for engaging thousands of alumni, parents, and students as donors and volunteers each year. The goals of this department are to: 1) increase the number of annual donors, 2) significantly raise the amount of discretionary funds for the Chancellor, the deans and program directors, and 3) identify campaign/major donors for the campus. Programs include Parent and Family Philanthropy, Pipeline Development, and Direct Response Marketing. The department is made up of 33 employees and raises $13-$15 million in private contributions each year.

The Office of Pipeline Development provides philanthropic opportunities for the alumni, parents, and friends of UC Berkeley in the $1k- $100k level. Situated within University Development and Alumni Relations, and the department of Annual Programs, Pipeline Development seeks annual and major gift support from UC Berkeley families, manages pipeline growth program, and provides strategic leadership for campus units in scalable qualification and leadership giving.

Position Overview

The Development Associate, Pipeline Development will work with the Pipeline Development team to design and support fundraising programs and individual portfolios. It will implement specific plans for leadership giving and alumni relations activities. It will also involve planning, administering, and implementing an established fundraising strategy or program of limited scope or complexity. This position provides in-depth analysis of programs, trends and results. It assists with developing materials and creating custom reports. The Development Associate provides key data analytic, project management, and research support for Leadership Giving fundraising programs, as well as the Pipeline Growth program.

Responsibilities
Implements established components and activities for the Pipeline Development fundraising program; plans, administers, and implements Pipeline Development's well-defined and established fundraising program requiring the exercise of limited discretion and judgment. Develops and maintains fundraising reports on Pipeline Development and Pipeline Growth program activities and results, providing information on fundraising program trends and analysis of data. Maintains accurate donor prospect information in CADS database. Prepares fundraising support materials for specific fundraising activities and/or assists in donor communication materials such as writing, speaking, and/or telephoning. This includes but is not limited to the oversight and execution of monthly donor stewardship letters and individual communications to donors. Monitors the departmental giving email account, researches information as needed, and drafts responses to donor prospects inquiries on behalf of Pipeline Development team. Pull data sets, run reports, code and track key milestones for donor Discovery Journeys. Conduct qualification interviews for donor Discovery Journeys as needed. Complete all donor prospect follow up and documentation requirements in a timely manner. Support the creation of a new Discovery Journey metric dashboard to measure fundraising totals. Handles assignments and special projects involving direct interaction with donor prospects, donors, and alumni. Drafts fundraising and annual program materials for website review and for the Cal Reunion website. Assist in drafting donor prospect communications on behalf of gift officers as needed. Conducts research on alumni, parents, friends to identify donor prospects. Works with or partners with other fundraising professionals to ensure that annual fundraising goals are met. Handles special donor projects/assignments involving direct interaction with alumni/parent volunteers, donors, and various campus fundraising partners.
Required Qualifications

Working knowledge of fundraising, donor relations, and public relations concepts, principles, procedures, and techniques.
Working knowledge of the location, its vision, mission, goals, objectives, achievements and infrastructure.
Working knowledge of applicable laws, rules, regulations, policies, etc.
Good written and interpersonal communication skills to establish and maintain good working relationships throughout the organization and with outside constituencies.
Good organizational, analytical and critical thinking skills.
Skills in maintaining confidentiality.
Education/Training

Bachelor's degree in related area and / or equivalent experience or training
Salary & Benefits

This is a 6-month contract, full-time (40 hours per week) position.
This position is non-exempt, paid bi-weekly and eligible for full UC benefits.
This is a Bay Area based position; hybrid and remote-friendly up to 80%.

This range takes into account the wide range of factors that are considered in making compensation decisions including but not limited to experience, skills, knowledge, abilities, education, licensure and certifications, analysis of internal equity, and other business and organizational needs. It is not typical for an individual to be offered a salary at or near the top of the range for a position. Salary offers are determined based on final candidate qualifications and experience.

The budgeted hourly rate range that the University reasonably expects to pay for this position is $36.88 - $40.71 per hour, commensurate with experience.
