Development Director Virginia Beach, Virginia
FLSA Status: Full-time, Exempt
The Development Director is responsible for the planning and execution of branch fundraising initiatives in the Hampton Roads area and continued stewardship of established community relationships. They are responsible for planning, organizing, and directing all of the Armed Services YMCA of Hampton Roads’ fundraising including, the major gift program, annual fund, planned giving, special events, and capital campaigns. The Development Director works closely with the Executive Director and the Board of Management in all development and fundraising endeavors. The salary range is $65-70K based on individual experience and prior fundraising performance.
Qualifications:
- Must embrace the mission of the Armed Services YMCA of Hampton Roads.
- Strong interpersonal oral and writing skills.
- Have the desire to get out of the office and build external relationships.
- Experience with fiscal planning, forecasting, and budgeting.
- Plan, implement and evaluate fundraising campaigns and activities.
- Proficiency in using computers, database software, applications, and programs including specific experience working in CRM software.
- Everyday activities of communicating with donors via in-person, email, or social media.
- Have knowledge and experience in fundraising techniques, particularly major gift fundraising and annual capital campaigns
- Possess the skills to work and motivate staff, board members, and other volunteers.
- Be organized and exhibit “follow through” on tasks and goals.
- Display a positive attitude, show concern for people and community, demonstrate presence, self-confidence, common sense, and good listening ability.
Job Responsibilities:
- The principal charge is to create numerous, efficient, and compelling opportunities for donors to support our organization and to make the experience of giving satisfying and rewarding.
- Make public appearances/initiate speaking engagements to share information about the ASYMCAHR with prospective donors and supporters continually. Be a bold and effective networker to strengthen corporate, foundation, high-wealth individual, and commercial relationships.
- Create a Fund Development Plan that syncs with the organization’s overall strategic direction.
- Grow a major gift program including identification, cultivation, and solicitation of major donors.
- Oversee grant seeking including research, proposal writing, and reporting requirement.
- Build the planned giving program with a focus on deferred gifts such as bequest expectancies.
- Direct the annual fund program, including mailings, capital campaigns, and other fundraising drives.
- Work closely with Executive Director and Board members to cultivate, ask, and steward charitable gifts in line with the mission of the organization.
- Oversee the fundraising database and tracking systems. Maintain the donor database and implement a strategic engagement plan with current and potential community partners. Ensure a donor stewardship plan is in place, including timely responses to donations, donation tracking, and reporting impact to donors.
- Stay on top of fundraising trends. Network and collaborate with other fundraising professionals.
- Oversee the creation of publications to support fundraising activities.
- Oversee all aspects of community and fundraising events, including but not limited to sponsorship sales, coordination with community sponsors, securing of event facility locations, resources and developing an operating budget.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Skills and Experience
- Bachelor’s Degree with Certified Fund-Raising Executive credential or minimum of 5 years of experience in fundraising desired.
- Self-motivated and capable of independent, out-of-the-office operations. Timely and concise communications with leadership are a must.
- Detail-oriented with excellent follow-up skills required.
- Knowledge of the military culture desired.
- Able to maintain the confidentiality of sensitive organization information.
- Able to work a flexible schedule, occasionally including nights and weekends.
- Exceptional leadership, interpersonal communications, and cross-cultural communications skills.
