Principal Duties and Responsibilities
- Responsible for the engagement, strategic partnership, and management globally, including being the primary point of contact to, Unum’s Inclusion Network which consists of the I&D Advisory Board, Inclusion Business Champions, and Employee Networks
- Direct key components of I&D Inclusion Network strategy and development, including:
- Leadership selection, appointment, and on-boarding/training
- Partner with Employee Networks, I&D Advisory Board leaders, Executive Sponsors, and applicable stakeholders to implement programming, communications, and marketing strategies to ensure consistent execution of the Inclusion Network
- Build and maintain relationships with Inclusion Network leaders and members, and key stakeholders
- Provide ongoing and direct feedback to the Inclusion Network leaders regarding success and opportunities
- Develop and maintain governance structure of the Inclusion Network (e.g., policies, toolkits, guidelines, and templates)
- Develop and apply effective benchmarks and metrics to measure the impact of the Inclusion Network
- Create yearly budgets with Employee Network leadership and ensure programs, projects and all other initiatives remain within budget and align with business priorities
- Develop appropriate performance and maturity metrics for the Employee Networks
- Partner with Director – Business Partnerships & External Engagement on Inclusion Business Champion strategy execution and embedding I&D within the business.
- Plan and execute annual Inclusion Network Summit and new member orientation
- Align Inclusion Network goals with the I&D and business strategy to enhance the employee experience, engagement, growth, development, and retention
- Subject matter expert to the Inclusion Network by contributing perspective, insights, and knowledge, and taking a balanced consultative and systematic approach to enable the organization to achieve measurable results
- Responsible for ensuring Employee Networks establishes and implements tangible metrics, adhere to I&D code of conduct, assessments, business plans, proposals and deliver tangible ROE (Return on Engagement) to the business
- Responsible for ensuring Inclusion Business Champions establishes and implements tangible metrics, adhere to I&D code of conduct, assessments, business plans, proposals and deliver tangible ROE (Return on Engagement) to the business in partnership with I&D Business Partner and Director – Business Partnership & External Engagement
- Partner with Inclusion Network leadership to develop and implement I&D initiatives to attract, retain and promote a diverse workforce while promoting and internal culture of inclusion
- Build meaningful relationships with diverse talent across the enterprise and proactively seek their feedback to inform future programs and strategies
- Manage relationships with external diverse organizations, constituencies, and alliances that are significant to Unum’s global I&D strategy in all regions, reviewing effectiveness of each relationship and recommending changes; also manage requests for renewals and sponsorships
- Partner with CSR team to increase Inclusion Network member participation and improve community engagement in underrepresented communities aligned with business goals
- Implement I&D activities including education and professional development workshops for members of the I&D infrastructure, facilitating workshops when applicable
- Lead, plan and serve as a contact for internal and external Inclusion Network events
- Manage and enhance the Inclusion Network membership database, performance scorecard, and provide other metrics as needed to provide relevant data, analysis, and recommendations. Track and transparently report progress
- Develop recommendations and best practice resources for deployment by the Inclusion Network
- Partner with I&D Workforce Planning and Learning team to develop training and development planning resources for the Inclusion Network
- Accountable for establishing clear and achievable objectives and managing project priorities within established timelines and quality measures
- Structure documentation and communication appropriate to project in partnership with corporate communications as needed
- Continually assess external best practices and cultivate a strong internal and external network of I&D professionals and access to tools and resources to advance Unum’s I&D strategy
- Source external event locations and vendor products and services as needed and communicate with vendors about upcoming needs and dates
- May perform other duties as assigned.
Job Specifications
- Bachelor’s degree preferred or equivalent business experience
- 7+ years of experience in the Employee Network or Resource Groups and direct engagement and management of these groups.
- Prior experience working with Employee Networks to develop objectives, define impact/measurement goals and regular reporting to track results on investment.
- Proven experience managing a budget with ability to demonstrate return on investment across portfolio of Employee Network initiatives and programs.
- Strong verbal and written communication that translates into written content, presentations, plans and other materials, facilitation, and presentation skills.
- Previous experience working to counsel Employee Network leaders and members during times of external crisis or events that impact mental health.
- Previous experience working with corporate communications functions and employee engagement teams.
- Commitment and passion for advancing diversity, inclusion, equity and belonging.
- Champion for organizational change and broader processes and practices.
- Collaborate with others and leads in an ambiguous, changing environment.
- Excellent project management and organization skills, with exceptional attention to detail and ability to influence outcomes.
- Experience in managing executive-level stakeholder conversations.
- Ability to communicate effectively and coordinate activities among senior leaders.
- Ability to partner and work strategically with cross-functional teams to drive overall solutions, while appropriately anticipating and managing issues and risks and large-scale change management.

The base salary range for applicants for this position is listed below. Unless actual salary is indicated above in the job description, actual pay will be based on skill, geographical location and experience.
$87,200.00-$152,600.00Additionally, Unum offers a portfolio of benefits and rewards that are competitive and comprehensive including healthcare benefits (health, vision, dental), insurance benefits (short & long-term disability), performance-based incentive plans, paid time off, and a 401(k) retirement plan with an employer match up to 5% and an additional 4.5% contribution whether you contribute to the plan or not. All benefits are subject to the terms and conditions of individual Plans.
