GENERAL DESCRIPTION

  • The Office of the Attorney General (OAG), a dynamic state agency with over 4,000 employees throughout the State of Texas, is seeking a highly motivated, organized, and results-driven recruiter with a passion for legal recruitment to serve as the OAG’s Director of Attorney Recruitment and Retention.
  • This position will identify short-term and long-term hiring needs, develop, and implement strategies to monitor and aid employee’s success within the agency, and assist with planning, developing, and implementing initiatives for the recruitment of agency attorneys. This position will report to the Human Resources Director.

ESSENTIAL POSITION FUNCTIONS

  • Develops and executes recruitment strategies to attract talented attorneys to the OAG
  • Stays up to date with industry trends and best practices in legal recruiting and continuously improves recruitment strategies
  • Builds and maintains relationships with potential candidates, providing exceptional customer service throughout the recruitment process
  • Oversees talent fulfillment, partnering with division chiefs to monitor and fill job openings; assists division management with the creation of job descriptions and with posting AAG positions in special job listings and recruitment portals; acts as a liaison between divisions and candidates to negotiate offers, benefits, and terms of employment
  • Reviews attorney résumés from various sources including the internet résumé portal and professional or job- search platforms (e.g., LinkedIn, Indeed); screens and forwards résumés, assesses candidates' qualifications and fit for OAG attorney positions, and contacts potential candidates
  • Builds and maintains a network of potential candidates, including former employees, experienced public-sector and private-sector attorneys, and recent law school graduates; maintains accurate and up-to-date records
  • Implements retention strategies; actively communicates with agency employees to facilitate lateral and vertical mobility within the OAG
  • Assists with online recruiting activities, including: updating information on the OAG’s LinkedIn page, serving as a liaison with LinkedIn, assisting divisions with LinkedIn posts; serving as a subject matter expert on LinkedIn and other recruitment-related social media; researching recruitment information on Internet; drafting, writing, and editing recruitment-related documents; conducting presentations
  • Coordinates public speaking opportunities with professional organizations and law schools
  • Develops and supports internal programs and external outreach efforts to promote the culture of the OAG
  • With approval from Executive Administration and Agency Press Office, may represent the agency publicly at designated events
  • Ensures that all recruiting activities comply with legal requirements, including EEOC guidelines and other federal and state regulations
  • Performs related work as assigned
  • Maintains relevant knowledge necessary to perform essential job functions
  • Attends work regularly in compliance with agreed-upon work schedule
  • Ensures security and confidentiality of sensitive and/or protected information
  • Complies with all agency policies and procedures, including those pertaining to ethics and integrity
Qualifications


MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

  • Education: Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university
  • Four years of full-time experience as a recruiter
  • Knowledge of legal industry and attorney hiring processes
  • Knowledge of EEOC guidelines and other federal and state regulations related to recruitment
  • Excellent organizational skills, including a strong, consistent attention to detail
  • Skill in independently handling multiple tasks, prioritizing, and meeting deadlines
  • Skill in effective oral and written communication (Note: Writing sample may be required for selected interviewees.)
  • Skill in exercising sound judgment and effective decision making
  • Skill in utilizing various job board sites, including LinkedIn and Indeed
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office, including PowerPoint
  • Ability to receive and respond positively to constructive feedback
  • Ability to work cooperatively with others in a professional office environment
  • Ability to provide excellent customer service
  • Ability to arrange for personal transportation for business-related travel
  • Ability to work more than 40 hours as needed and in compliance with the FLSA
  • Ability to lift and relocate 30 lbs.
  • Ability to travel (including overnight travel) up to 20%
  • Ability to arrange for personal transportation for business-related travel
  • Ability to work in person at assigned OAG work location, perform all assigned tasks at designated OAG work space within OAG work location, and perform in-person work with coworkers (e.g., collaborating, training, mentoring) for the entirety of every work week (unless on approved leave)

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Licensed as an attorney by the State of Texas
  • Member in good standing with the State Bar of Texas
  • Experience with attorney recruiting
  • Knowledge of the Office of the Attorney General’s mission and values
