Duties and Responsibilities:
- Oversees all library operations including circulation, reference, acquisitions, cataloging, library instruction, electronic resource access, website development, and library systems administration
- Responsible for the implementation and execution of the Student Laptop Program
- Administrates the library room reservation system
- Develops all library policies and procedures
- Evaluates appropriateness and effectiveness of library services
- Actively seeks innovations for improving library services across all campuses/sites of SLCC
- May be required to provide hands-on operational duties when necessary.
- Find innovative solutions to meet the needs of students across all SLCC campuses/sites.
- Manages library staff including Federal Work Study (FWS) students
- Assigns and coordinates work responsibilities
- Evaluates professional and para-professional employees annually
- Works with professional staff to develop individual yearly planning goals
- Addresses deficiencies in employee performance
- Prepares and monitors performance improvement plan for underperforming employees.
- Provides opportunities for staff development
- Communicates and interprets college policies. Ensures staff adherence to LCTCS, SLCC and library policies
- Responsible for all library accreditation activities for SACSCOC, individual program accreditation and program reviews including data gathering and report writing. Attends accreditation conferences as required
- Completes the academic library section of the IPEDS report in coordination with the Office of Institutional Effectiveness.
- Completes other governmental reports as required.
- Develops and issues report of library operations at least twice annually Planning and budgeting
- Develops, monitors and manages library budget
- Responsible for long-range planning and annual planning as directed by the Office of Institutional Effectiveness.
- Uses the strategic planning platform to initiate, monitor and complete annual plan.
- Coordinates library services with the e-learning coordinator.
- Develop innovative solution to meet the needs of on-campus, virtual, and online students.
- Liaisons with representatives of University of Lafayette – Dupre Library, Lafayette Public Library, LOUIS Consortium and other groups
- Develops partnerships with community groups and other local and regional libraries
- Promotes library services in appropriate formats to faculty, staff, administration and all student populations
- Participates in local and regional professional organizations
- Advocates for the library to faculty, staff and administration, students and outside groups
- Develops all reciprocal agreements with other institutions as necessary
- Identifies and pursues grant opportunities
- Participates in college-wide committees , ad-hoc committees and activities
- Works effectively with all faculty, administrative and student groups
- Participates in training as required by the State of Louisiana
- Participates in required college training including leadership development training
- Develop/Coordinate a robust programming schedule across all campuses/sites.
- Develop/Coordinate interactive exhibits tailored to the SLCC audience, space, and budget.
- Coordinate and create community programs that increase library awareness.
Required Education:
MS, MLS or MLIS in library and information science or related degree from an ALA accredited institution.
Required Experience:
Minimum of five (5) years of progressively responsible experience in a technology driven Library with at least two (2) years of supervisory experience.
Required Licenses or Certifications:
Valid, unencumbered driver's license
Passing pre-employment criminal background screen is required as a condition of employment.
