We are seeking a dynamic and experienced Director of Nursing to join our dynamic and growing organization. The Director of Nursing is responsible for leading, planning, organizing, staffing, directing, analyzing and evaluating the nursing services of the department, as well as supervising members of the nurse management team and others as assigned, in order to provide effective nursing services that meet practice and quality standards. The Director of Nursing assumes the charge responsibilities for the facility in the absence of the Administrator.

Qualifications:

  • Must be a graduate of an accredited school of nursing: postgraduate study and/or experience in geriatrics is desirable
  • Must be licensed to practice as an RN in the State of Wisconsin
  • Must possess competence in supervision, leadership, and communication skills.
  • Must have the ability to plan, develop and implement nursing policies.
  • Must be organized; self-motivated and have ability work independently.
  • Must be able to make decisions in an emergency such as fire, tornado, change of resident condition.
  • Ability to read and write in English.
  • Ability to communicate with residents, families, personnel and support agencies.
  • Ability to evaluate and interpret information and make independent decisions.
  • Must understand the legal aspects of nursing under the nurse practice act of the State of Wisconsin.
  • Must be physically able to waist lift to a maximum of 30# with frequent waist lifting of objects weighing up to 10#. Must be able to push objects with a maximum effort of 25#.
  • Must be able to stand or walk 4-6 hours in an 8-hour day. Must be able to occasionally bend, squat and twist body during an 8-hour day.

Essential Job Functions (With or Without Reasonable Accommodation):

Oversight and directing the nursing department which includes but may not be limited to:

  • Developing and implementing new policies and procedures as needed to support processes and positive resident care and that meet federal and state regulatory expectations as well as being evidenced based.
  • Stays current with upcoming federal and state regulatory changes.
  • Ensure a staff development program is in place to support regulatory and clinical competency needs.
  • Direct resident care to promote best practice outcomes and support of all regulatory expectations.
  • Supervise all nursing personnel which may include hiring and discipline.
  • Assist in orientation and training of all nursing personnel. Supports and builds a culture that is resident centered and focused on retention.
  • Be subject to call, and carry cellphone, on an as needed basis
  • Oversee scheduling of all nursing personnel to ensure appropriate staff coverage to meet state and federal standards.
  • Schedules and directs regular meetings for professional nurses and nursing assistants. Supports a culture of team building.
  • Oversight of infection control program and compliance.
  • Fosters a culture of continuous quality improvement. Develops, implements, and evaluates the nursing department quality assurance program. Participates in facility quality improvement and QAPI meetings This includes patient, family, and staff satisfaction; safety and risk management; and strategic planning.
  • Collaborate with Medical Director and other key resources to support and promote best practices in resident care.
  • Collaborate with facility team in risk and strategic management.
  • Works with administrator to support development, revision, monitoring and implementation of the nursing department budget to promote appropriate utilization of resources. Oversees and adjusts the staffing hours based on acuity, census, and established staffing patterns. Approves staff timecards.
  • Any and all other duties assigned by Administrator for the purpose of quality resident care.

Working Conditions:

  • May be subject to bruises and scratches from residents striking out.
  • May be exposed to infections and odors.
  • In volved in tasks that involve exposure to blood, body fluids, or mucous membranes on a daily routine basis.
  • May be required to work more than eight hours in a day.
