Avenue Pub offers an original take on pub classics alongside craft beers and fresh cocktails. Founder Craig Williams opened the first location opened in Tuscaloosa, AL in 2014, and we opened a second location in 2021 in Orange Beach, AL. In the conception of every element of our brand, we desire is to provide a simple yet memorable dining experience for every guest that walks through our doors. The Wine Market opened in 2020 with the desire of filling a niche that was lacking in the Tuscaloosa community. We desire for The Wine Market to be a place where guests can come downtown and enjoy a night out with great wine, food and good company.
We are growing and expanding! We are set to open a third Avenue Pub and a second The Wine Market in North Tuscaloosa at the end of the 2023 summer. Come join us as we grow the concepts and come be a part of our expanding team!
POSITION OBJECTIVE
The Director of Operations (DO) will play a critical role in taking Avenue Pub and The Wine Market to the next level. This individual will work very closely with the Owner and must be someone who can take the Owner’s vision and put it into action. As the DO, you will maximize the 3 restaurants and operations by being involved in the day-to-day operations. You will lead the restaurant leadership team to ensure the right people, systems, and processes are in place for the organization to grow and scale. You will ultimately allow the CEO to operate more effectively by taking the company to new heights, and working for something greater than themselves.
As the DO, you will work closely with the Director of Finance and the Director of Marketing to ensure that the brand for the restaurants is aligned and operations are running smoothly. You will manage the restaurant GM’s and help them grow as leaders in the restaurant and ensure standard operating procedures are put in place and maintained.
POSITION KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
- Execute the business plan, and achieve or exceed planned P&L objectives
- Integrate all major operating functions of the business. Ensure everyone is rowing together in the same direction and all systems, policies, and practices reflect core values
- Lead, manage, and hold the leadership team accountable for achieving agreed-upon commitments
- Resolve issues effectively—seeing real problems, being comfortable with conflict, calling out the problems, and solving the problems in a practical and healthy manner. Ensure the restaurant leadership team is healthy, functional, and cohesive
- Establish operational benchmarks and resources needed to achieve strategic goals, proactively driving improvements as necessary; work in concert with leadership team to set standards of accountability and clearly defined measurements of success. Ensure that everyone is truly following, and adhering to, the company’s core processes and operating system with consistency
- Dependably demonstrate a relentless obsession with values alignment, focus, simplicity, and clarity
- Effectively collaborate with the Owner and remain aligned. Maintain a high level of mutual respect with the Owner. Realize the unique contributions and ideas that the Owner has, and possess an ability to filter and translate those ideas into functional plans for the company
- Confirm that all key messages are properly and consistently cascaded across the organization. Inherently ensuring that everyone is in the know. Verify a high level of effective communication exists throughout the organization
SKILLS & EXPERIENCE NEEDED
- Bachelor’s Degree, required. MBA or equivalent a plus
- 2-5+ years of multi-site operations leadership in a restaurant or food service, required
- Passionate about the mission of Avenue Pub and The Wine Market
- History in achieving/exceeding P&L goals at prior organizations
- In-depth knowledge of financials with the ability to quickly understand company strengths and weaknesses
- Experience in successfully working with a vision-focused Owner
- Proven track record of leading management teams and driving the financial strategy
- Self-starter that is motivated to drive process improvement
- Technologically savvy
- Effective communicator, excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Ability to diagnose problems quickly and have foresight into potential issues
- Understanding or prior background in EOS, a plus
- Strong interpersonal skills exhibiting humility, excellence, accountability, desire to help, can-do and solution-oriented attitude
