Director of Operations Job at Honeybee Robotics
The Director of Operations will lead a group of highly skilled manufacturing and test resources building and testing spaceflight mechanisms and electronics systems. They will ensure the teams’ performance is aligned with program schedules, company workmanship standards, and overall employee conduct.
Responsibilities
- Provide functional leadership for a team of skilled technicians, leads, and supervisors producing spaceflight hardware
- Resource planning, forecasting & talent recruitment
- Align with Design Engineering, Program Managers, and Strategic Business Unit Leaders to drive toward on-time-delivery with commitment to quality
- Production Scheduling, Theory of Constraints, Resource Allocation, and Scenario Planning
- Incorporate systems for error proofing such as: cross-training plans, program training certs, and Human Error Management
- Maintain a strong focus on human and hardware safety
- Direct preparation of work centers for production and test operations
- Develop and qualify new manufacturing and test tools, technologies, and processes
- Process Improvement Methods: Process Mapping, Root Cause Analysis, Statistical Methods, Time Studies, and Waste Reduction
- Value Stream Analysis, Facility Layouts, Production Systems Design, Manufacturing Process Design, and Facilities Planning
- Aggregate, assess and report detailed status of work in progress to an executive audience
- Weekly reporting to Business Unit Director on group KPIs, countermeasures, and systemic initiatives
- Personnel performance management including conflict resolution and professional development
Required Experience, Skills and Education
- US Person (Citizen or Permanent Resident)
- BS in Operations Research, Industrial, Manufacturing Engineering, or related engineering degree
- 10+ years proven experience working directly with manufacturing in a low volume/high mix production environment with previous 4+ years of relevant management experience.
- Ability to comfortably work in a rapidly changing ambiguous environment
- Ability to earn trust, maintain positive and professional relationships, and contribute to a culture of inclusion
- Outstanding with Excel and manual data analysis
- Excellent Interpersonal Communication Skills
- Self-Starter
- Strong math and analytical skills to solve problems
- Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail
- Experience in aerospace manufacturing and facilities planning
- Experience leading continuous improvement and value stream mapping events
- Experience in the following areas:
- Tight Tolerance Mechanical assembly
- Electronics, including soldering operations
- Adhesives and Coatings
- Electronics Assembly including Soldering & Harnessing with ESD controls invoked
- Acceptance & Environmental Testing
- Strong written, personal, technical, and software skills (CAD, Scheduling, Issue Tracking, Excel, Word, Outlook, etc.)
- Experience working across organizations, collaboratively, and in small teams on fast-paced projects
- Experience with Materials Requirement Planning (MRP) systems
Compensation and Benefits
- All final pay rates will be determined by the candidate’s specific education, experience, knowledge, skills, and abilities of the applicant, internal equity, and alignment with market data.
- Pay Range: $140,000-$180,000 per year
