Director of Photography Job at University of Oklahoma
University of Oklahoma Athletics Department is looking for a creative, selfmotivated, and enthusiastic member to join the graphic design department as the Director of Photography. This position will lead the photography services at the University of Oklahoma athletics to support marketing, branding, events, and communication needs for the athletics department. The Director of Photography will cover university events, shoot portraits, and set up photo shoots for athletics marketing. They will oversee at least one other photographer to ensure all necessary events are covered.
Basic Functions:
- Primary contact for department on all photographyrelated requests.
- Primary oversight of departments digital archive.
- Work closely with creative staffs and teams to ensure a cohesive style across all department photography.
- Manage department budget and work with other departments to maintain budget integrity for their project requests.
Essential Functions:
- Manage the staffing of photographers at all OU Athletics events and functions. Coordinate with sport programs and departments beforehand on specific photography needs for each event.
- Coordinate on location photoshoots for each of our sports programs, providing both sport staff and external areas with highquality headshot and portraitstyle photographs.
- Perform accurate editing, correction, archival and file storage in a timely manner; follows department procedures and standards for adding metadata and photo organization.
- Work with external vendors to provide them with requested images and other assets.
- Responsible for securing and maintaining equipment; including cameras, lenses and studio lighting. Oversight on usage and distribution for specific events.
- Ability to work some nights and weekends to cover events and functions.
- Collaborates proactively with creative staff colleagues to ensure consistent output of highquality photos in line with OU Athletics visual brand.
Required Education: Bachelor's Degree AND
- 36 months in photography, photo editing skills, and managerial experience.
- Artistic vision
- Technical knowledge of camera equipment and the art of photography
- Postproduction editing
- Visual editing software skills
- Ability to work well under pressure and meet deadlines
- Attention to detail
- Ability to work independently and as a team
- 6+ years of experience working as a professional photographer
- Photography experience must include studio and location photoshoots and ingame photography for various sports.
- Knowledgeable of workflow in a Macintosh environment, primarily Adobe Photoshop and Lightroom (or similar software).
- Ability to engage in repetitive motions.
- Operates and transports cameras, video and sound equipment weighing up to fifty pounds to locations on and offcampus
- Valid Driver License for frequent offsite meetings and conferences.
