The ideal candidate for this position resides near one of Transtar's major facilities. Locations include: Cleveland, OH; Dallas, TX; Cookeville, TN or Rancho Cucamonga, CA.
THE OPPORTUNITY:
We are looking for an experienced Safety Director, reporting to the EVP and Chief Operating Officer, to join our growing organization and oversee the Company’s focus on a safety first culture throughout every facet of business.
In this role you will be responsible for ensuring compliance to all regulatory safety standards at all Transtar locations in the US and Canada, enhancing and overseeing health and safety protocols for the Company, using technology and appropriate investments to keep our team safe in carrying out their roles. An outstanding candidate for Safety Director should be able to identify opportunities to minimize workplace health and safety hazards quickly and efficiently, and work in a collaborative fashion to mitigate risks within the organization
RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Developing and implementing workplace safety policies, procedures and training materials in accordance with OSHA and CCOHS standards.
- Providing Personnel with safety-related information such as training sessions, emergency protocols, and proper use of safety equipment.
- Maintaining compliance and training records for all locations
- Facilitating a consistent and collaborative approach to safety across the organization
- Ensuring all EHS policies and procedures are up-to-date and understood by the organization.
- Identifying opportunities for improvement of safety procedures.
- Performing safety audits and physically inspecting all work areas and job sites to identify possible safety issues.
- Conducting risk assessments to minimize workplace and last-mile driven delivery fleet accidents, occupational illnesses or long-term health hazard, facilitated with the use of technology tools such as Humantech, Velocity, and SDS online.
- Prepare monthly and annual safety reports and presenting information to the Executive Leadership Team and Board of Directors
- Collaborating with management to plan and implement a safety protocol budget including Capital purchases
- Driving a behavior based safety programs at the employee level and ensuring safety becomes a part of daily organizational culture.
- Perform other duties as directed.
- Supervise assigned team members, including providing department and/or project orientation, and day-to-day guidance.
- Make recommendations regarding employment, performance appraisals, salary changes, promotions, and transfers for team members reporting to you.
- Encourage and facilitate opportunities for on-going professional development for all team members.
- Will oversee a Safety Task Force throughout every location within the Organization.
- Perform other duties as directed.
KEY QUALIFICATIONS:
To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required. A good candidate for this position will have a high bias for action and set a superior standard of safety for the organization through appropriate actions and response times.
- Bachelor’s degree (B.A.) from a four-year college or university in safety management, environmental safety or a similar field.
- A certificate in occupational health and safety management
- At least 3 years of experience as a safety director or health & safety manager
- Excellent knowledge of OSHA and CCOHS standards and federal safety legislation.
- Solid knowledge of potentially hazardous materials or practices in the workplace.
- Familiarity with writing health and safety policies and procedures across all the US (California included), Canada, and Puerto Rico
- Proficiency in conducting data analysis and reporting statistics.
- Working knowledge of safety management software such as Humantech, Velocity, and SDS online.
- Strong communication and teamwork skills.
- Excellent supervisory and leadership skills.
