EHS Regional Safety Specialist - West/Pacific No. West Region w/ 50% Travel
The Regional EHS Safety Specialist is responsible for leading systems, processes and procedures that promote a positive safety culture, which results in an injury free and healthy workplace. You will collaborate with local plant teams and Divert’s leadership team to create solutions to prevent and decrease safety incidents at all of Divert’s operating facilities. This position will ensure the facility teams have the knowledge and resources to follow all local, state, and federal safety requirements and Divert EHS programs. This position reports directly to the Director of EH&S and will work cross functionally with Production, Logistics and Engineering & Construction.
Facilities located in: Albany, OR; Mechanicsburg, PA; Freetown, MA; Turlock, CA; Bakersfield, CA; Los Angeles, CA; Plymouth, IN; Mt Sidney, VA, with more coming on line!
Key Duties and Responsibilities

  • Responsible for supporting and fostering the safety culture and compliance at Divert’s facilities
  • Develop site specific safety and environmental programs, policies, procedures, and associated training materials, and lead initiatives to strategically plan, communicate, deliver and track required employee training
  • Conduct site audits, inspections, evaluations, and reviews as necessary
  • Lead projects aimed at anticipating, recognizing, evaluating and controlling safety hazards and environmental risks
  • Development and delivery of training materials across the plants/facilities
  • Drive thorough investigations for all incidents/accidents and ensure timely completion of corrective actions. Lead the team in developing effective root cause analysis and countermeasures
  • Assures compliance with various governmental record-keeping requirements, as well as, company metrics, and effectively communicates information to site teams and leadership
  • Develops and mentors facility team members to improve their effectiveness as safety leaders
  • Provide safety and process safety expertise for engineering and design
  • Position requires approximately 50% travel to support Divert’s operating facilities

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in occupational safety, environmental science, engineering or related disciplines or equivalent subject matter knowledge skills and abilities acquired through work
  • 3+ years experience working in progressively more responsible safety in a manufacturing environment and familiarity with manufacturing equipment, work environments and procedures
  • Experience developing and implementing safety/environmental programs, policies, and training
  • Ability to be self-directed and complete work with minimal day-to-day supervision

What Will Put You Ahead

  • Prior project or program management responsibilities over multiple operating locations is preferred
  • Familiarity with California worker safety requirements and Cal/OSHA regulatory programs
  • Experience with DOT regulations and relevant certifications (IMO or DOT training)
  • Familiarity or experience with ISO standards
  • Master’s degree in occupational safety or related disciplines
  • ASP, CSP, CIH, CHMM, or other professional certification
  • Bilingual (Spanish) with the ability to effectively communicate EHS training materials and program requirements
