POSITION SUMMARY:
Under the direction of the Director of Elementary Teaching & Learning, the Elementary Teaching & Learning Coordinator will provide leadership and support in developing, implementing, monitoring and sustaining the grades K-5 curriculum, instruction and assessment activities for all content areas in order to execute the District Strategic Plan. Duties include: the coordination and leadership of the standards-based review process set forth by the state of Minnesota, achievement data and analysis, continued development and implementation of advanced learning and intervention programs that support an MTSS framework, and professional development. The Elementary Teaching & Learning Coordinator will partner and work closely with the Director of Elementary Teaching & Learning and the Elementary Teaching & Learning Coordinator/Specialist to establish guidelines and criteria for curriculum, instruction and assessment. This is a 205 day a year position. With a start date of 8/8/2023.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: The essential functions of this position include, but are not limited to, the following fundamental duties:
District/Strategic Planning:
- Builds and sustains relationships with the district leadership and school staff.
- Conveys and upholds the district mission, vision which drives work towards the execution of the District Strategic Plan and School Continuous Improvement Plans.
- Partners with the Director of Elementary Teaching & Learning, and the Elementary Teaching & Learning Coordinator/Specialist to co-develop and facilitate the Standards-Based Review Process that aligns to an MTSS framework for all content areas set forth by the State of Minnesota.Facilitates continuous improvement process for new programs, curriculum implementation and instruction.
Plans, designs and provides follow-up for all content area staff.
Leads the evaluation of the current strengths of curricula and opportunities for improvement. based on quantitative and qualitative data.
Facilitates the selection process for updated curricular resources.
Monitors the vertical alignment of curriculum.
Facilities process around student assessment to align with state standards which clearly support the Professional Learning Community Process.
Monitors and supports the use of the Elementary Teaching & Learning curriculum hub.
Supports Multi-Tiered System of Support (MTSS) model of differentiated instruction and tiered intervention processes.
Facilities process around student assessment to align with state standards that support an MTSS Framework and the Professional Learning Community Process.
- Partners with the Director of Elementary Teaching & Learning, and the Elementary Teaching & Learning Coordinator/Specialist in developing, coordinating and implementing high-quality, advanced learning programs and services that are delivered equitably and aligned with the District Strategic Plan.Provides direct leadership of the Ignite!, Discover and Young Scholars program using the continuous improvement model.
Coordinates and supports the integrity of inclusive identification processes to ensure equitable access to advanced learning programs, subject/grade acceleration and early entrance procedures and compiles and analyzes supportive data to identify students for placement.
Assists and supports professional development opportunities that ensure effective instructional strategies for advanced learning.Maintains accurate records in our student information systems on which students are participating in advanced learning programs.
Collaborates with the Secondary Teaching & Learning Coordinator(s) and middle school deans to transition students into middle level advanced learning programs.
Plans and facilitates ISD 194 Gifted Advisory Council.
- Partners with the Director of Elementary Teaching & Learning, and the Elementary Teaching & Learning Coordinator/Specialist in developing, coordinating and implementing comprehensive, evidence-based reading instructional practices based on the Science of Reading that are delivered equitably and aligned with the District Strategic Plan.Provides direct leadership regarding Structured Literacy strategies and students' reading competency in the areas of phonemic awareness, phonics, vocabulary development, reading fluency, and reading comprehension based on the Science of Reading using the continuous improvement model.
Assists and ensures the integrity of inclusive, evidence-based assessment tools and processes that support assessing reading proficiency and identifying students who may need reading support/intervention aligned to the Science of Reading.
Assists and coordinates professional development opportunities that support Structured Literacy strategies based on the Science of Reading.
Assists with the development of the district’s Local Literacy Plan to ensure that all students are reading well by no later than the end of third grade.
- Researches and recommends innovative programming opportunities and practices.
- Communicates curricular review and recommendations with relevant district-wide committees, the Board of Education and district leadership upon request.
- Supports building site leadership teams in implementing their School Continuous Improvement Plan.
- Attends Site Leadership Meetings upon request.
- Attends Professional Learning Communities, department or team meetings upon request.
- Attends and participates in district-wide committees as requested by the Director of Elementary Teaching & Learning.
- Attends and represents the district in local and state meetings and conferences related to state standards, assessment and instruction as requested by the Director of Elementary Teaching & Learning.
Professional Development:
- Supports, plans and co-delivers professional development on designated in-service days.
- Serves as a consultant and instructional coach to teachers, Professional Learning Communities and departments regarding best practices and effective instructional processes.
- Supports staff with the integration of digital tools into classroom practice.
- Supports staff in implementing culturally responsive teaching strategies into classroom practice.
- Supports the coordination of the new teacher induction program.
- Supports the planning and delivery of New Teacher Workshop.
- Supports the planning and delivery of Summer Learning Academy.
- Participates in professional development growth activities for the purpose of maintaining professional knowledge and staying current with curricular trends and instructional best practices.

- Performs other duties as assigned by the Director of Elementary Teaching & Learning.
- Collaborates with other departments and leaders to support the needs of teachers and students.

- Minimum of 5 years teaching experience; current Minnesota teaching license and a Masters Degree.
