The Emergency and Critical Care Veterinarian assesses patients that present with an urgent condition, performs emergency procedures and monitors their recovery process. The Emergency Veterinarian cares for animals that are suffering the effects of physical trauma, shock, respiratory problems, cardiac problems, neurological issues, or other severe injuries that require immediate and intensive veterinary care.

Key responsibilities:

• Diagnose and treat diseases and injuries of pets; primarily dogs and cats
• Examine animals to determine nature of disease or injury and treat animals surgically or medically
• Communicate with referring veterinarians
• Advise animal owners about sanitary measures, feeding, and general care to promote health of animals
• Participate in ongoing education, seminars, and training as appropriate

Requirements:

• Doctor of Veterinary Medicine Degree
• 2 + years of experience practicing veterinary medicine in a Veterinary Hospital setting is preferred
• Internship trained is also preferred
• Ability to attain Vermont Veterinary License
