Summary*
The Quality Engineer will be responsible for planning and directing activities for the development, application and maintenance of the company's quality system, including but not limited to, ensuring company engineering and manufacturing processes are performed correctly using the right tools, materials, and processes including implementation of company quality standards and inspection / testing processes.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Under general supervision, must be able to perform a variety of job duties including, but not limited to:

  • Develop, update and maintain the total Quality Control System that conforms to customer and company requirements.
  • Conduct part specific quality planning of new parts in accordance with customer and company requirements.
  • As part of the Contract Review process ensure that customer supplied specifications match operational capabilities.
  • Develop work Instructions from customer-supplied specifications.
  • Review all non-conforming material for disposition, utilizing the report of non-conformance.
  • Review customer quality complaints to determine and implement sustainable corrective actions.
  • Initiate request for corrective action (RCA) from internal and external customers.
  • Manage process for non-conforming material, including RCCA interdepartmentally and with the customer, through closure of the action.
  • Works with Quality and Operations teams to maintain 3rd party accreditations (e.g., NADCAP, AS9100, etc.), minimize scrap, rework, escapes, and customer returns.
  • Drive cost improvement/productivity initiatives throughout QC/Inspection departments.
  • Conduct internal and external audits of suppliers, processes, and Quality System
  • Release product to be shipped as an authorized Quality Representative of the customer.
  • Perform and prepares First Article Inspection Reports
  • Performs other related duties as assigned by management.

Education and/or Experience:
To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill and/or ability required.

  • Bachelor’s degree (B.S.) in Manufacturing Engineering (or another Engineering discipline) strongly desired
  • Minimum of three (3) years of Quality QA/QC methodology or Engineering with professional experience in an aerospace manufacturing environment
  • Experience in Lean/Six Sigma, 6S, and Continuous Improvement is desirable.

Required Skills:

  • Language: Must have excellent written and verbal skills. Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business information. Ability to write technical reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers.
  • Reasoning Ability: Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out detailed but uninvolved written or oral instructions. Ability to deal with problems involving a few concrete variables in standardized situations.
  • Mathematical Skills: Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.
  • Other Abilities: Knowledge of sheet metal and aerospace materials preferred. Must possess basic knowledge of geometric tolerance. Must possess thorough knowledge of materials planning systems (MRP/ERP) requirements and order generation process logic. Must have experience in customer management, contract review and implementation, quality management systems, Root Cause and Corrective Action (RCCA) through the utilization and application of Six Sigma tools. Must have knowledge of DCMA regulations, ISO and AS9100 quality standard requirements. Must have experience with the control and disposition of non-conforming material. Must have the ability to work on complex projects with general direction and minimal guidance.

Physical Demands and Work Environment:

  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee must be able to stand 6 to 8 hours a day. Must be able to work with their hands, arms and be extremely accurate. Must be able to walk, sit, stoop, or kneel on a regular basis. The employee must frequently lift and/or move up to 25 pounds. Must be able to lift and/or move up to 40 pounds on an occasional basis.
  • Customary physical demands for an office and manufacturing environment. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly exposed to moving high-speed machinery and mechanical parts. The employee is occasionally exposed to machine oils, metal fillings, acetone, paints, solvents, grease, cutting fluids, fumes or airborne particles, toxic or caustic chemicals, and risk of electrical shock or vibration. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate to loud.
  • Periodic travel may be required as deemed necessary to perform this job.
