Environmental, Health & Safety Manager

Summary: This position is responsible for creating a culture of safety and ensuring compliance with local, state, and federal law. This position will be responsible for developing, implementing and continually improving the EHS programs in a manner that reduces risk, eliminates incidents and complies with regulatory requirements to provide an environment that is safe for employees, visitors and contractors.

Five Key Roles:

Leadership & Development

  • Provide leadership by setting clear standards, goals, expectations and leading by example
  • Develop, implement and manage organizational safety programs and activities
  • Develop safety policies and procedures to maintain compliance with local, state, and federal laws/rules/ regulations
  • Demonstrate accountability and hold others accountable
  • Actively plan for employee training and development while maintaining all training documentation

Incident Management, Reporting and Response

  • Manage Incident Reporting (includes workplace incidents/accidents, employee injuries, property damage, etc.)
  • Lead investigations, identify and address recurring incident types and implement corrective or preventative measures
  • Coordinate with insurance providers to document, record, and process claims
  • Coordinate employee return to work program
  • Maintain records in compliance with all company, industry, and regulatory requirements
  • Manage notification to outside regulatory agencies following workplace incidents

Safety Committee and Facility Walk-Throughs

  • Lead Safety Committee with the goal that each member lead by example, mentor and coach new employees on the importance of safety, assist in trainings, identify unsafe conditions and recommend corrective measures.
  • Perform regular facility walk-throughs to assess compliance with all regulations, policies, and procedures to further mitigate workplace hazards
  • Provide walk-through documentation to appropriate individuals for review
  • Assist in reviewing facility findings with leadership to correct facility deficiencies or violations
  • Enforce all required rules, regulations, and policies to promote regulatory compliance

Compliance, Documentation and Reporting

  • Maintain vendor, contractor, and project safety files (Contracts, Agreements, and Certificates of Insurance)
  • Act as a liaison for regulatory agencies performing facility and/or equipment inspections
  • Manage Environmental/Regulatory Compliance and Reporting
  • Review and respond to regulatory agency inquiries (OSHA, EPA, FDA, DOT)
  • Maintain company OSHA 300 logs and safety data sheets

Other

  • Monitor inventory of personal protective equipment for all locations
  • Submit applications to the state for all permit modifications
  • Attend training, professional development, and continuing education opportunities
  • Be personally responsible for the safety of self and others
  • Perform other tasks as assigned

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:

  • Proficient computer skills with the ability to learn other key operational computer programs
  • Ability to effectively communicate both verbally and in writing
  • Strong analytical and independent decision-making abilities
  • Ability to remain flexible in a rapidly changing environment
  • Excellent organizational skills including multi-tasking, planning, prioritizing, and delegating
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective relationships with customers, employees, supervisors, and business partners

Certifications, Licenses, Registrations:

  • Valid driver’s license

Qualifications:

  • Graduation from an accredited related program. Relevant experience may be substituted for education.
  • Minimum of five (5) years of safety experience
  • Experience in risk management, ergonomics, personal protective equipment, industrial safety, injury and incident investigation, reporting, auditing and training
  • Thorough understanding of regulatory requirements, including EPA, OSHA, and DOT, and other local, state, and federal laws
  • Experience in agricultural industry is desirable

Working Conditions:

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently exposed to machinery and moving parts, airborne particles including grain dust and hazardous materials or fumes, which will require the use of personal protective equipment (PPE). The employee is exposed to adverse weather conditions, high, precarious places and confined spaces. The noise level in some of the work environments may require the use of hearing protection. While performing the duties of this job inside the office, the employee is frequently exposed to normal working conditions for an office environment with a noise level that is usually low to moderate. Minimal travel will be required, sometimes reactionary on short notice.

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $75,000.00 - $120,000.00 per year
