Full-time position available with the Water Department, Regulatory Compliance Division located at 4700 east 63rd Street
Salary Range: $24.77-$37.16/hour
Normal Work Days/Hours: Monday-Friday, 8:00 a.m.-4:00 p.m.

Responsibilities

Learns and assists with the Wastewater Treatment Division environmental compliance needs. Discharges Monitoring Report (DMR) preparation, hazardous waste disposal assistance, inspection assistance. Assists with the Industrial Pretreatment Program, writing permits, reviewing self-monitoring reports, assisting with inspections and initiating enforcement response. Assists with WWTD Biosolids needs, inspections, report preparation. Learns and assists when needed with aspects of the day-to-day operations at the Kansas City Regional HHW facility, including daily handling of hazardous materials, processing of pesticides, neurotoxins, flammable liquids, dangerous when wet, spontaneously combustibles, unstable and unknown items. Identifies unknown chemicals and the lab packing and tracking of chemicals from households, Conditionally Exempt Small Quantity Generators, and other legally acceptable locations. Assists with needs associated with the Household Hazardous Waste Program. Interacts with customers and the public on a daily basis in person and on the phone. Works with the public at outreach events and educational seminars as required. Assists Environmental Manager with on-site management support, mobile event assistance. Provides customer service at facility and mobile events. Contracts administration and reports preparation.
Qualifications

REQUIRES an accredited Bachelor’s degree in an environmentally related field, such as environmental science and related physical and life sciences, environmental engineering and related engineering specializations, environmental law and related legal specializations or environmental studies and related management, environmental planning and related urban planning specializations, environmental education, environmental policy, sustainability, and public administration specializations;OR an equivalent combination of qualifying education and experience. Must possess of a valid state-issued drivers license in accordance with City of KCMO policies.

The minimum education requirement for positions that allow for experience equivalency for an accredited degree is a high school diploma. Unless otherwise specified, an accredited degree must be obtained from a college or university listed with the U.S. Department of Education and recognized by the U.S. Secretary of Education. For positions with a salary grade of EX6 or higher that require an accredited degree, qualifying professional experience must be obtained AFTER the accredited degree is obtained.
Successful completion of a pre-employment criminal history/background check is required for all positions. Some positions require a post offer drug screen and/or physical.
If appointed, non-residents must obtain residency inside Kansas City, Missouri's city limits within nine months.
