Description of Job

The role of the Equity Specialist is to provide comprehensive Human Resources (HR) consulting to State Agency HR and Equity, Diversity and Inclusion (EDI) organizations. Strategic consultants work as an ambassador to state agency human resource offices and assist HR Directors with the interpretation and application of Equity Office business strategy to HR strategy. Strategic consultants work with agency HR Directors and EDI working groups in taking intent to execute and embrace agency similarities to leverage strengths across the state, acting as a liaison across assigned state agencies, Division of Human Resources (DHR) and Equity Office.

A summary of the duties and responsibilities will include, but are not limited to, the following:

EDI Business Partner:


Establish effective working relationships with assigned agencies through the provision of high quality accurate, authoritative consultancy services and timely response and interpretation of Equity Office programs, resources, tools and communication.
Proactively identify partnership opportunities to foster effective relationships between EDI professionals and the broader HR community; as well as agency partnerships.
Understand the nature of the EDI work in each agency supported, specifically how it ties to the overall agency mission, vision and values and then assist in implementing new DHR directives.

EDI Projects:

Exercise responsibility for the timely and successful completion of Equity Office-related projects outcomes as defined by manager.
Undertake EDI development projects and activities to deliver high quality Equity Office solutions and contribute to building a positive organizational environment and facilitation of initiatives
Provide quality Equity Office solutions that are aligned to support and assist agencies to develop best practice EDI management so that strategic, business and operational objectives are effectively met.

Minimum Qualifications, Substitutions, Conditions of Employment & Appeal Rights

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Experience only:

At least seven years of experience leading as an HR professional with demonstrated ability to coordinate and manage EDI initiatives within a diverse and fluid organizational dynamic and manage goals and established parameters.
OR

  • Education and Experience:

At least a Bachelor's degree from an accredited institution in a field of study related to the work assignment AND at least three years of experience leading as an HR professional with demonstrated ability to coordinate and manage EDI initiatives within a diverse and fluid organizational dynamic and manage goals and established parameters. Additional appropriate education will substitute for the required experience on a year-for-year basis.


The exceptional candidate will possess the proven ability or accomplishment in the following preferred qualifications:

  • Previous State Service related to the work assigned to the position
  • Strong interpersonal skills
  • Customer service skills
  • Ability to maintain a high degree of accuracy and confidentiality
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Ability to multi-task and manage multiple ongoing projects/priorities
  • Ability to work independently as well as part of a team
  • Working knowledge of a variety of computer systems including HRIS, NeoGov, CPPS, Microsoft Office and Google products sufficient to create complex spreadsheets, charts, presentations and troubleshoot system issues.
  • Strong project management and organizational skills
  • Ability to analyze and incorporate requirements into Equity Office processes and systems
