Job Summary and Qualifications

The PRN Exercise Physiologist/Specialist for Cardiopulmonary Rehab implements exercise programs according to the plan of treatment for the rehab patient, instructs individuals and groups in exercise activities using appropriate techniques and promotes and maintains a safe environment. Educates and counsels patients, the community and hospital employees regarding exercise programs and healthy lifestyles. Develops and modifies exercise prescriptions, leads and demonstrates exercise and equipment, and supervises participants in the exercise classes.

Essential Duties Include:

• Evaluate new and current patients/participants in regard to their current health status.
• Prescribe appropriate exercise programs, maintain these programs for the participant, and makes necessary adjustments to the prescription based on physiologic data, participants’ goals and physician directions.
• Provides patient/participant education specific to exercise benefit and fitness programs.
• Monitor patients on EKG monitor during their exercise sessions, utilize telemetry monitoring system per policy and procedure and recognize and interpret arrhythmias.
• Takes blood pressure and heart rate before, during and after exercise.
• Prescribe home exercise programs according to their knowledge of fitness, patient/participant goals, physiologic data and physician recommendation.
• Perform fitness assessments and reassessments. Interpret results for patients/participants and assists them in setting realistic goals.
• Orient new fitness center members and evaluate members' exercise programs including equipment use and safety.
• Monitor and supervise exercise sessions. Teach exercises in individual and group settings.
• Assists with maintenance and cleaning of exercise equipment, scheduling, billing, mailing, customer service and other office tasks as needed.

Education:

• Minimum of a Bachelor’s degree in Exercise Science, Sports Medicine, Nursing, or equivalent.

Experience:

• Current BLS required, current ACLS preferred
• Experience in outpatient cardiac and/or pulmonary rehab setting, preferred
• Able to interpret ECG telemetry rhythms, will train
