The Field Support Engineer I, under close supervision and direction, installs, repairs, upgrades, and performs preventative maintenance on specified Carl Zeiss Meditec instrumentation in a designated field service territory. Represent Carl Zeiss Meditec at customer locations and work to achieve a high level of customer satisfaction. Maintain all company property (inventory, tools, diagnostic equipment, vehicle, etc.) in accordance with company policies. Keep a high level of professional communication with team, customers, management, Sales, and Technical Support.

Perform installation, preventive maintenance, upgrades, and repair. Diagnoses mechanical, hardware, and software failures applying knowledge/experience of established policies and procedures. Coordinate and implement basic technical solutions within a clearly defined solution space. Demonstrate good judgement in selecting methods and techniques for obtaining solutions. You must live no further than 1 hour from downtown Seattle.

  • Must successfully complete all assigned technical training to acquire a solid knowledge of assigned company equipment (basic training)
  • May be trained to conduct special site or system environmental analysis tests as assigned by management.
  • Following proscribed procedures, correctly order and obtain spare parts and also expedite the return of any defective materials as may be required
  • Liaise and schedule assigned service activities with the customer and ensure ZEISS Service Management, Customer Interaction Center, and when appropriate, the Sales Account Manager is kept aware as required.
  • May provide defined pricing, availability, and schedule information to customer within established guidelines under guidance if applicable. Supports quote preparation.
  • Properly care for all ZEISS tools and assets as may be made available during the execution of assigned responsibilities.
  • Determines cost effective repair/resolution. Follows established policies and procedures.
  • Knows KPIs and completes all necessary forms and reports in support of department and company data collection efforts, e.g. expense reports, service reports, quality reports, in prescribed timeframe
  • Uses technical knowledge of products, product availability, sales territories, and individual customers to provide a communications link to the customer.
  • Suggests additional and/or alternative products or services to meet customer needs.

Job Requirements

  • 0 – 3 years of previous field service experience required.
  • BS degree in Electronics, Engineering, Computer Technology and related fields preferred.
  • A+ and Net + certification preferred.
  • Theoretical understanding of basic electromechanical, electronic, and optical systems.
  • Basic understanding of troubleshooting techniques and approaches.
  • Must have good verbal and written communication skills.
  • Must have strong computer skills with the ability to obtain specific certifications as required.
  • Must be able to pass required training to service fine mechanics and optics.
  • Must be willing to travel in the US and internationally for training, meetings, exhibit support, and coverage outside assigned territory.
  • Be able to obtain sufficient credit to cover incurred business expenses which will be reimbursed upon expense report submission and approval.
  • The position requires an average of four (4) hours driving per day; must have a valid driver’s license and good driving record.
  • Be able to lift up to 80 pounds; 30% of the average workday is spent standing or walking.

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $50,000.00 - $68,000.00 per year
