Job summary
Platte River is seeking a financial analyst to support financial planning project efforts and processes. Areas of focus include rate analysis and tariff support, various financial modeling and risk management.
This is a great opportunity for someone with relevant business, finance and/or accounting experience, who is interested in learning about the electric utility industry and working cross-functionally with other departments as well as independently. Essential duties and responsibilities
- Maintains and updates long-term financial planning and cost of service models as well as develops and implements initiatives that improve modeling effectiveness
- Conducts rate impact analysis, creates financial models, builds and analyzes forecasting scenarios and delivers financial projections
- Collects, interprets, analyzes and summarizes data and trends; examines assumptions; studies resource modeling cases; assists in rate design and policy development, and identifies and implements improvements to financial modeling
- Prepares, maintains, updates, delivers and presents information through reporting, presentation, graphical, in-person and virtual meetings; authors and prepares written analysis, including summaries and findings
- Serves as a subject matter specialist in the structure and application of tariffs and charges, their components and implications for billing customers
- Monitors, reviews, and evaluates service rates and charges for various utilities (benchmarking); conducts comparative analysis; analyzes proposed rate change impacts on owner community customers and recommends prospective courses of action
- Supports the development, implementation, verification of the strategic financial plan
- Manages relationships with insurance brokers, procures policies, responds to claims and assists internal and external stakeholders with claims management
- Provides energy risk management oversight and counterparty credit assessments; ensures all products and transactions comply with the policies; Performs various credit management duties
- Supports the coordination, management, monitoring and reporting of the enterprise risk management program action plans
- Prepares standard operating procedural documents and updates risk management plans
- Partners with subject matter experts internally to identify risks and risk tolerance and thresholds, facilitates and coordinates responses to insurers
- Provides information related to insurance contract(s), risk analysis, damage and liability assessments and other risk processes
- Compiles data and assists in drafting and editing financial planning documents
- Performs other duties as assigned
The following are required:
- Strong written and verbal communication skills and an ability to communicate technical information effectively
- Excellent financial analysis, problem-solving and critical thinking skills
- Working knowledge of traditional risk management standards and processes, trends and best practices
- Thorough knowledge of Microsoft Outlook, Word, PowerPoint and Excel, with exceptional proficiency using Microsoft Excel
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships, exhibit a positive attitude and collaborate with others to provide high level of customer service
- Ability to work productively and act independently, demonstrating high levels of initiative and attention to detail in problem-solving efforts
- Skill in ensuring the accuracy of information, timeliness of system updates and an ability to bring problems forward for resolution
Education and licenses
- Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university in business, finance, accounting, economics or related field or equivalent combination of education and related experience
- Current valid driver’s license and ability to remain insurable under the vehicle liability policy
- Three years of business finance or other relevant experience
- Utility experience in the areas of rates
- Risk management experience
- Broad understanding of insurance programs, coverages and concepts: general liability, cyber, property, D&O and auto
- Experience learning new and adaptive technologies and accessing external professional services used in financial analysis and modeling
- Minimal physical effort typically found in clerical work. Primarily sedentary, may occasionally lift and carry light objects. Walking and/or standing as needed and minimal.
- Minimal exposure to hazards are typically found in general office environment where there is rarely to no exposure to injury or accident
- Exposure to routine office noise and equipment
