Job Description:

Core areas of responsibility are:

• Improve Biosecurity Protocols in conjunction with direct report
• Perform Mortality Evaluation of the fish groups periodically with the goal of define the possible cause of death
• Take fish tissue samples for Health surveillance from different rearing areas in different moments of the cycle or as necessary.
• Include Biosecurity evaluations of each rearing area
• Follow up on health of groups or tanks as necessary
• Keep updated reports on the evolution of the groups according to the measured parameters.
• Do Fish Welfare evaluations according to AS Welfare Evaluations guidelines
• Prepare Fish Welfare Report with findings, trends conclusions and recommendations after every evaluation.
• Take blood samples according to schedule for each fish group, and record results.
• Evaluation of smolt readiness
• Measure Na and Cl on different moments during the smoltification process and during the salt challenge test.
• Increase the education of personnel on the topic of biosecurity.
• When necessary, prepare presentations of technical aspects related to Fish Health and/or Fish Welfare.

Skills, competences, and knowledge to perform the work

• 3-5 years of experience on Fish Health evaluations of Atlantic salmon or other salmonids, reared in aquaculture systems
• Familiar with fish physiology and pathology
• Willingness to collaborate with team members
• Veterinarian background with a focus on aquatic life
• Ability to work in complex multi-tasking environments
• Be open to learn and do other fish health - welfare evaluations as new knowledge or equipment is on site.
• Fish Farming industry experience is a plus
• Experience in RAS systems is a plus

This job operates in a combined office and farm/production and construction environment.
