BASIC FUNCTION: Under the direction of an assigned administrator, organize and implement services for pupils with severe vision impairments including assessment of pupils' functional vision; evaluate and recommend appropriate assistive technology and modified reading materials for pupil's use; instruct pupils in skills necessary to utilize recommended assistive technology and skills unique to impaired vision; collaborate with teachers, parents, other support personnel and administrators to facilitate inclusion of pupils in the least restrictive learning environment.
EXPERIENCE: Successful experience as a teacher of the visually handicapped in a public school setting. Evidence of advanced training in the area of Educational Assistive Technology from a recognized program is desirable.
LICENSES AND OTHER REQUIREMENTS: Valid California Education Specialist Instruction credential authorizing service as a teacher of the visually impaired. May also be required to hold an Orientation and Mobility authorization depending upon the assignment. EL authorization.
