GEOGRAPHIC INFORMATION SYSTEM (GIS) TECHNICIAN
Salary may be negotiable within the range listed above, based on position requirements and successful candidate's qualifications, subject to appropriate authorization.

This recruitment will establish an open eligible list. This list will be used to fill current and future GIS Technician positions. This eligible list may also be used to fill positions in similar and/or lower classifications throughout the County of Orange .

THE OPPORTUNITY
DESIRABLE QUALIFICATIONS & CORE COMPETENCIES
The ideal candidate will possess a Bachelor's Degree in Geographic Information Systems, Cartography, or in a related field OR two (2) plus years of professional experience using GIS software OR possess a Geographic Information Systems certificate. In addition, the ideal candidate will possess extensive professional work experience and/or knowledge in the following core competencies:
GIS Knowledge | GIS Experience
- Working with GIS and related GIS software
- Creating reports for recording precinct boundary changes and customized maps
- Developing and implementing procedures for unit operations
- Identifying and resolving challenging technical issues and problems or researching possible solutions
- Providing analysis and recommendations for modifying procedures
- Planning, organizing and implementing projects to meet established time frames
- Working with other public and private agencies in efforts to provide customer service to the community, public, and key stakeholders
- Maintaining effective working relationships with all stakeholders
- Thriving in a fast-paced environment with changing priorities
- Responding quickly, courteously, and proficiently to customer service requests
- Soliciting feedback and adjusting customer requests to fit into business improvements
- Generating consensus and collaborative relationships to bring about efficient and effective outcomes
- Developing and preparing presentations and reports of GIS data
NOTE: Foreign degrees require an evaluation of U.S. equivalency by an agency that is a member of the National Association of Credential Services (N.A.C.E.S.).
RECRUITMENT PROCESS
Human Resource Services (HRS) will screen all application materials to identify qualified applicants. After screening, qualified applicants will be referred to the next step and notified of all further procedures applicable to their status in the recruitment.

Applications and supplemental responses will be screened for qualifications that are highly desirable and most needed to successfully perform the duties of this job. Only those applicants that meet the qualifications as listed in the job bulletin will be referred to the next step.
Online Assessment | Multiple Choice (Refer/Non-Refer)
Applicants who meet desirable qualifications will be invited to participate in one or more job-related assessments. Applicants will be notified of their test date and access code, if applicable. Only the most qualified applicants will move forward to the next step in the recruitment process.
Structured Oral Interview (Weighted 100%)
Applicants will be interviewed and rated by an oral interview panel of job knowledge experts. Each applicant's rating will be based on responses to a series of structured questions designed to elicit the applicant's qualifications for the job.
Based on the Department's needs, the selection procedures listed above may be modified. All candidates will be notified of any changes in the selection procedure.
Eligible List
Once the assessment has been completed, HRS will establish an eligible list of candidates. Candidates placed on the eligible list may be referred to a selection interview to be considered for present and future vacancies.
