Position Overview: The position of Grading Superintendent has the direct responsibility for personnel, equipment, scheduling, safety, quality of workmanship, and completion of assigned projects on time.
Duties and Responsibilities: •Take responsibility to complete the project on-time and on-budget, according to project specifications.•Supervise and direct the work of a crew of multiple employees to ensure proper quality is maintained and that schedules are being followed.
•Ensures that work is being performed safely and effectively by communicating and assisting crew members on proper use of equipment, job responsibilities, housekeeping, job requirements, and productivity•
Ensures that new employees are adequately trained in company policies, safety requirements and job responsibilities•
Conducts per-job briefings, safety meeting, and address how daily tasks are to be carried out•Maintains accurate daily payroll records, quantities, and equipment usage for crew members' work•
Maintains a daily diary on events and tracks daily quantities for future use•Examines blue prints, sketches and specifications to determine site layout, design specifications, equipment required, and required excavation depths and dimensions.
•Must have knowledge of the proper use of equipment used to operate to ensure that tools and equipment are safe and fit for duty; prior to utilizing equipment•Ensures company equipment and material is maintained, kept clean, and stored in a safe manner
•Responsible for maintaining compliance of crew and scheduling subcontractors on OSHA, NCDOT, and other federal requirements•Responsible for observing and complying with all safety, company policies, and project rules.
•Hires and task train site workers•Create and maintains positive working relationships with owners, vendors, suppliers and inspectors•Attends project meetings as required Education and/or Experience:•High School Diploma or General Education Degree (GED) preferred.
•Three (3) to Five (5) years of heavy highway experience required. •Combinations of work experience and education may be considered. Certifications, Licenses, Registrations
•Knowledge of GPS machine control•OSHA 10 hour preferred•First Aid/CPR certification preferred•Current North Carolina Driver's License, required•NCDOT Erosion and Sedimentation Control, Level II certification required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Required:•Able to read and comprehend simple instruction, short correspondence, and memos.
•Able to read plans and proposals•Able to write simple correspondence.
•Able to effectively communicate information in one-on-one and small group situations to customers, clients, and employees.
•Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent and to draw and interpret bar graphs.
•Ability to apply common sense understanding in order to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form. •Ability to deal with problems/issues involving several concrete variable in standardized situations.
•Experienced operating and working around heavy construction equipment.•Basic computer skills.•Ability to prioritize tasks and manage time effectively.
•Able to multiple task simultaneously•Able to communicate to crew members in a professional and effective manner.•Able to provide effective feedback to team members.

•Must be able to pass a pre-employment and random drug screenPhysical Demands:
•Extensive physical activity performing strenuous daily activities of a primarily productive/technical nature. Includes standing and sitting for extended periods of time, stooping, bending and crouching.
•Able to walk on uneven surfaces, including natural ground in varying weather conditions.•Capable of lifting up to 70 pounds.
•Visual accuracy under varying degrees of light, darkness, and weather conditions in order to provide safe directions for operators of heavy equipment and other employees.•Able to climb on and off heavy mobile equipment, and in and out of excavations and up to 20 feet in height
•Able to work overtime and weekends, if necessary•Able to travel when required.
•Requires working from heightsEnvironmental Working Conditions
•Outdoors exposed to changing weather conditions (i.e., rain, sun, snow, wind, etc.)
•Noise level in the work environment is loud.•Exposure to dust, grease, gasoline, diesel fuel, concrete, and other environmental factors of a construction job site.
•Work is performed near heavy equipment and moving machinery.
Job Type: Full-time
Pay: $48,500.00 - $105,000.00 per year
