Job Summary

The Graduate Student Success & Retention Coordinator reports to and works closely with the Associate Vice President for Research and Associate Dean of the Graduate School with a focus on assisting faculty and staff within departments, schools, and colleges to support graduate student retention and success initiatives.


Major Responsibilities/Duties/Critical Tasks

  • Support student success and retention initiatives in partnership with academic units.
  • Manage social media publishing and practices using social media platforms: Instagram, Twitter, Facebook, LinkedIn, and YouTube.
  • Assist with the collection, analysis, and documentation of graduate student success and retention data.
  • Work closely with graduate programs to improve student orientation, advising, time-to-degree completion, career planning, and placement of graduate students.
  • Assist in identifying, intervening, and monitoring at-risk students.
  • Collaborate with program faculty and students to facilitate and meet professional and career development needs.
  • Assist with the management of student mentorship programs.
  • Assist graduate programs with Navigate, EAB's Student Success Management System.
  • Assist with the development and implementation of strategies to increase student research opportunities.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.


Minimum Required Education/Experience

  • Bachelor’s Degree.
  • Master’s degree preferred.
  • Three (3) or more years of experience in a student support service division or office.
  • Experience working with students from diverse backgrounds.
  • Must have a reliable vehicle and possess a valid Texas drivers license.
  • Previous experience in the area of graduate success and retention including, making presentations and leading student success initiatives preferred.
  • Knowledge of UT Tyler Polices and Procedures preferred.
  • Familiar with UT Tyler campus preferred.
  • Knowledge of PeopleSoft database preferred.

The retirement plan for this position is Teacher Retirement System of Texas (TRS), subject to the position being at least 20 hours per week and at least 135 days in length.

This position is security-sensitive and subject to Texas Education Code Section 51.215, which authorizes the employer to obtain criminal history record information. Applicants selected must be able to show proof of eligibility to work in the United States by time of hire.
