Beginning Step is a privately owned and family oriented behavioral health treatment facility located in Westland, MI. We are an experienced and mission driven organization, and are a licensed and accredited substance use and co-occurring disorder treatment provider for the Detroit Wayne Integrated Health Network (DWIHN). Currently, we are seeking caring, passionate clinicians who want to begin or advance their career journey in the field of substance abuse treatment.

We are willing to train recent graduates and those looking to make a switch to substance abuse treatment as a career field. New employees undergo a several week training and shadowing period before working with clients.

Primary Tasks and Responsibilities

The Group Counselor position is a great opportunity for recent graduates with a degree in social work (BSW), psychology, sociology, or other related human services degrees looking to gain experience and certification in the field of substance abuse treatment. As a smaller organization, we are able to offer a team focused environment with accessible supervisors.

The Group Counselor will perform the following tasks:

Facilitate group (process and didactic) counseling sessions

Assist with the new client intake process

Complete session notes, and all other required paperwork

Attend weekly clinical meetings

Education and Experience

Required:

Bachelors Degree in Social Work (BSW) preferred, but open to bachelors degrees in Psychology, Sociology, or a Related Human Services Degree

CADC or ability to get a MCBAP development plan

Adult First Aid/CPR/AED Certification or ability to obtain within 60 days of hire

Must be able to meet Federal, State, and local criminal clearance requirements

Preferred:

Experience working with dual diagnosed clients

Knowledge of 12 step recovery process

Experience facilitating didactic and process groups

Proficient computer skills

Strong verbal and written communication skills

Meet Federal, State, and local criminal clearance requirements
