    Position: Head of School at Fremont International Academy (Elementary Principal)

    Supervisor: Director of Elementary Education

    Contract Expectations: 212 days

    ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTION:

    The role of the Head of School at Fremont International Academy is key to the successful implementation of the IB programme. The Head of School leads the pedagogical leadership team within the school ensuring alignment to the beliefs, attitudes, mind-sets and practices that support the IB teaching and learning. It is imperative for the Head of School to be guided by the following principles:

    • Supports and advances the Mission, Vision and Values of the School
    • Supports student learning and achievement through cooperative effort and best practices.
    • Supports and promotes the curriculum based upon the IB goals and mission.
    • Supports and advances international education.

    With a targeted lens, the Head of School is to provide the leadership for ensuring the student experience at Fremont International Academy reflects the integrity of implementation of the International Baccalaureate Primary Years Programme model (PYP).

    EDUCATION: Bachelor’s degree required; Master’s degree preferred

    LICENSE: Must hold a valid Michigan Elementary Teacher’s License and have a minimum of 3 years of successful teaching (rated effective or highly effective).

    REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

    • Master's degree in educational administration or related field
    • Michigan Administrator certification
    • Five or more years of successful teaching experience at the elementary school level
    • Understanding and demonstrated knowledge of IB PYP framework and practices
    • Preference will be given to candidates with previous school leadership experience

    PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

    • Valid Michigan Teacher Certification
    • Three years of demonstrated successful school-based leadership experience, preferably at the PYP elementary level
    • Five or more successful years of administrative experience
    • Experience working in a diverse school community

    EXPERIENCE:

    Experience and training in the Primary Years Programme (PYP) or previous experience as an IB coordinator preferred

    THE STRONGEST CANDIDATES WILL HAVE:

    • A belief that all children can achieve no matter their zip code
    • Deep understanding of the nuanced needs of majority, minority and low-income student populations, trauma-informed teaching practices and restorative justice
    • Deep understanding of the theory and practical application of the science of reading and literacy
    • A proven track record of leading, managing, and coaching other educators to increase student achievement among high need students, students in a majority-minority district, and low income
    • Demonstrated experience working with diverse student populations and leading differentiated instructional support for English Language Learners (ELL) populations, high need students, special education students, and Tier 1, 2, and 3 students.
    • Experience working in trauma- informed settings
    • Expertise in building a positive and collaborative adult culture
    • Deep instructional expertise, developing student-centered classrooms, promoting personalized and project-based learning, and using instructional technology
    • Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written
    • Strong interpersonal skills and ability to build and cultivate positive relationships with staff, parents and community stakeholders
    • Demonstrated ability to marshal resources to get staff moving in the same direction to get things done
    • Demonstrated ability to disrupt and transform systemic inequities
    • A willingness to go above and beyond to contribute to the success of a dynamic team

    Organizational Relationship: Responsible to the BCPS Coordinator of Curriculum and Instruction
