YOUR ROLE & IMPACT

As part of a dynamic team at Charles River Community Health (CRCH), a healthcare practice providing compassionate care to underserved communities, the Health Benefits Counselor will play a critical role in the comprehensive health benefits process. The Health Benefits Counselor will have a solid understanding of health insurance requirements, regulations, and policies. The Health Benefits Counselor will provide exceptional customer service and counseling to patients so that they can receive uninterrupted, quality health care services.

YOUR RESPONSIBILITIES

• Required to take a course online to become a Certified Application Counselor by April 1st.
• Interview, assess, and screen patients to determine eligibility in state eligible health insurance programs.
• Assist patients in collecting information requested by insurers such as Mass Health and/or Health Connector.
• Educate patients about their financial responsibility and requirements to maintain active health insurance.
• Advocate for patients when contacting insurers.
• Assist with the development of culturally sensitive materials for use in community education programs.
• Record and report patient visits to the Health Benefits department in our data management system.
• Attend all necessary DPH and related meetings providing updated policies and other information.
• Work collaboratively with staff in meeting JCAHO accreditation & other regulatory and funding requirements.
• Perform other duties as required.

YOUR QUALIFICATIONS, COMPETENCIES, TRAITS

• High School graduate, Associates Degree preferred.
• Experience in health care setting.
• Health Insurance knowledge required.
• CAC certification preferred but not required.
• Strong organizational, problem solving and customer service skills; Team-Oriented
• Prioritize appropriately and make independent decisions.
• Ability to work with a high degree of confidentiality.
• Experience in diverse culture preferred.
• Must be flexible and able to work at either locations Brighton and Waltham.
• Must be Bilingual English and Spanish (speak and understand).
