Job Summary

The Healthcare Safety & Regulatory Compliance Manager shall work with various entities within the organization to supervise and administer environmental health and safety (EH&S) services, programs, goals, and initiatives. The Healthcare Safety & Regulatory Compliance Manager shall be the liaison between the Real Estate Department and other Medical Center entities from a safety and health perspective. This person shall ensure and promote safe work practices and safe working conditions in accordance with all Federal, State and Local rules and requirements including all Medical Center safety programs.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Regulatory and Education Duties:

o Conducts audits to gauge regulatory readiness of accrediting agencies such as The Joint Commission (TJC), Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA), New York Dept. of Environmental Conservation (NYSDEC), Fire Department of New York (FDNY), New York State and City Department of Health (DOH), Dept. of Buildings (DOB), and other regulatory organizations as applicable.

o Identifies staff opportunities for continuing education and provides training.

o May design in-house training materials and train employees when necessary.

o Provides oversight to management staff to ensure compliance with established practices, to implement new policies and to keep employees aware of changes and current standards.

o Assures compliance with regulatory, insurance and ethical standards regarding safety of patients, employees, and property.

o May be responsible for developing annual training schedules and creating multi-disciplinary training curriculum throughout the Medical System and is also responsible for maintaining records pertaining to those training sessions.

  • Project Management Duties:

o Develops and implements project schedules, and/or tracking and reporting systems, managing work assignments, and identifying and resolving issues.

o Provides process improvement assistance when needed and evaluates and develops logical workflows where applicable.

o Collaborates with department leadership and committees to develop and implement short term and long-term plans.

o May serve as point-of-contact for interdepartmental communications, where applicable, to maintain standards, implement improvements, define, and measure progress and meet business objectives.

o Familiarity with abatement projects including coordination of initial investigations, interfacing with colleagues, vendors, finance management, and managing project records/documentation.

o Identify and assist with sustainability initiatives as needed.

  • Administrative Duties:

o Provides expertise in the formulation, interpretation and administration of current and long-range policies, procedures, and programs.

o Assists in establishing goals and objectives for the department that are consistent with Mount Sinai Hospital System policies, and federal, state, and local regulations.

o Documents procedures, identifies process and workflow changes for continuous improvement and implements best practices for greater efficiency.

o Identifies contingency plans for potential risks.

o May be responsible for creating, reviewing and/or updating policies and procedures pertaining to department specific goals and objectives.

o Ensures compliance with Mount Sinai policies and procedures.

o Provides feedback on a regular basis.

o Participate in department committees.

o Performs other related duties as needed.

Education Requirements

  • Minimum: Bachelor’s Degree in health and safety, fire safety, or other science-related field required.
  • General Skills: Excellent verbal, written and interpersonal skills.
  • Analytical, problem-solving, managerial skills including budgeting and finance.

Experience Requirements

  • 3+ years of relevant experience in healthcare compliance and administration; experience in strategic planning and execution, formulating policy, managing resources and leading successful teams.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage regulatory programs and health and safety programs.
  • Ability to apply regulatory requirements to real world settings.
  • Ability to manage heavy workloads with minimal supervision and to prioritize competing demands efficiently.
  • Good organizational, written, and verbal skills.
  • Ability to present to groups of people with various levels of expertise and authority.
  • Ability to respond to emergency situations as needed.
  • Must be able to walk for long periods of time.

The salary range for the role is $71713 - $107569 Annually. Actual salaries depend on a variety of factors, including experience, education, and hospital need.
