Job Title: House Parent

General Description:

Works in conjunction with other house parents to provide a structured and caring environment for student's grades 1-12, with emphasis on Academic, Social, Cultural, Spiritual, and Physical well-being. Provide live-in/on-site 24 hour presence/supervision to student cottages.

Supervision Received: Works under the supervision of the Residential Manager

Supervision Exercised: None

Supervision Essential Job Functions:

  • Provide initial cottage orientation for new students, ensuring that all paperwork is complete.
  • Maintain preparedness of cottage and living areas in regards to cleanliness and daily minor maintenance.
  • Report needs of cottage to Residential Manager
  • Maintain daily tasks and chore list for student and ensure completion.
  • Keep cottage stocked with necessary food/non-food items.
  • Ensure day-to-day safety of students and student environments.
  • Attend required staffing and provide reports/information as directed.
  • Assist students with school and homework needs.
  • Enforce structure of student schedules in regards to sleep habits, school, passes and activities.
  • Promote structured and disciplined environment devoid of negative intervention methods, yet motivated.
  • Responsible for knowing and understanding the Chickasaw Constitution, Code, Mission, Vision, Core Values, Policies, and Procedures with respect to the Department of Family Services, the CCV and supporting programs and services
  • Develop and maintain positive and interactive rapport with students. Provide stable and caring guidance to meet the individual needs of students' emotional and social development.
  • Ongoing communication with Residential Manager.
  • Assist students in learning and developing through daily living skills training.
  • Periodically assist grounds and maintenance staff with minor care and maintenance needs.
  • Report all incidents and emergencies to appropriate personnel.
  • Ensure all student health and hygiene needs are met and attended to, including clinic referrals. Teach and instruct on healthy lifestyles and self-care importance.
  • Develop and train for preventative and interceptive methods including, actions/consequences.
  • Responsible for maintaining the highest level of confidentiality and privacy of all students in the cottage.
  • Shares in workload and cottage/students responsibilities with other house parent.
  • Models a positive, caring, considerate, and cooperative parent relationship with other house parent to instill positive problem solving and interaction between house parents.
  • Familiarize self with safety rules, regulations, and protocol. Must have current CPR & first aid certification. (this provided by the Chickasaw Children's Village annually).
  • Responsible for maintaining the highest level of confidentiality regarding students at the Chickasaw Children’s Village

Minimum Qualifications

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

Required - House Parents must be legally married and able to provide documentation. Common law marriages not considered Required - Must be 21 years of age of older. Required - Must have minimum of two years' experience working with children in similar environment. Required - Must be able to pass a background check and complete a pre-employment drug test with a negative test result. Required - Must present proof of COVID-19 vaccination

Education:

GED Required - BIE Required

Education Note:

GED or high school diploma

Training And Experience:

Required Training (0 - 6 months) - High School diploma and 2-3 years' work related experience. Parental experience a plus.

Licenses, Certifications, Other:

Required - Required to have a (CDL) commercial driver's license with a class B endorsement or be willing to attend classes to obtain a CDL

Physical Requirements:

Required - The physical demands descried here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. Required - Ability to use physical effort in moving and controlling housekeeping such as vacuums and carpet shampooer. Required - The employee is required to transport students. Must be able to drive or sit as passenger for hours at a time. Required - Must be able to load up to 20+lbs. of food or supplies into vehicle and then into cottage. Required - Must be able to walk short distances to chaperone while on outings with the students.

Work Environment:

The work environment characteristics described here are representative of those an employee encounters while performing the essential functions of this job. Work is performed in the cottage. There is common exposure to contagious disease. The work may include a certain amount of interaction with clients, their family members and visitors The employee occasionally works with cleaning fluids and solvents and must operate tools including vacuum cleaners, carpet extractors, have ability to reach two feet above head, etc. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.
