ESSENTIAL DUTIES, FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Functions as a resource person for the various nursing units.
- Maintains responsibility, authority, and accountability for unit and hospital activities whole while on shift, keeping administration informed and supporting and promoting the hospital’s mission, vision, and values and management philosophy and decisions.
- Maintains own clinical skills including use of equipment and trends in nursing.
- Communicates verbally and in writing in an appropriate and timely manner, for the purpose of open communication and problem identification and problem solving.
- Maintains a professional, encouraging, and friendly work environment.
- Communicates well with others, demonstrating tact, sensitivity, and the ability to collaborate with patients and staff.
- Develops and implements staffing plan for shift based on patient acuity, patient census and available staff. This includes the utilization of assigned Float Registered Nurse or Patient Sitter.
- Adheres to and promotes the established values of the organization, including customer service, safety, compliance standards, and professional behavior.
- Demonstrates passion for excellence in day to day work activities delivering high quality results on time.
- Works efficiently, utilizes all resources in a cost-effective manner, adheres to organization’s policies and procedures, actively seek ways to reduce cost, increase quality, and conserve resources to improve results.
- Participates in planning and conducting continuing education in nursing care, quality assurance, performance improvement, and care of instruments and supplies.
- Collaborates with team members and other personnel as needed to facilitate methods of resolution and solutions to problems.
- Functions in any nursing unit as assigned and appropriate.
- Maintains bed control by determining and verifying bed assignments; evaluate utilization of personnel, supplies, equipment, and physical facilities for optimum effectiveness and working conditions.
- Serves as Administrator-On-Call and liaise with external agencies; consult with Nurse Manager or other Administrative representative concerning matters that require immediate attention beyond their scope of authority.
- Makes rounds throughout the hospital to monitor quality of patient care and safety; respond to situations involving patients, unit, staff, and visitors, and provide a resolution.
- Reports to the administration significant incidents and problems such as:
- unusual patient or family problems or concerns.
- physician concerns
- borrowing or lending of major equipment
- major damage or utility outages
- security problems
- public relations or media events
- fire
- disaster
- bomb threats
- matters of legal importance
- safety issues
- calls received from the Office of Healthcare Quality, Health Department or any other regulatory body
- Supervises and provides oversight for staffing, evaluations, counseling, and disciplinary actions.
- Completes all yearly Center for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) required training by the indicated due dates.
- Assists, promotes, and supports compliance with established CMS standards.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
MANDATORY MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Experience:
Ten (10) years of direct work experience including five (5) years of critical care, and five (5) years of leadership experience.
Education:
Associate of Science Degree in Nursing from an accredited Nursing Program.
License:
Valid and unrestricted Registered Nurse license in any U.S. State or Territory.
Certificate:
Valid American Heart Association (AHA) certification in Basic Life Support (BLS) and maintain certification.
