Position: Housekeeper for HC
Reports to: Housekeeping Supervisor
Department: Housekeeping
Schedule: Monday - Friday, 8:00 a.m. – 4:30 p.m., weekends as needed
The Housekeeper must be able to provide thorough cleaning of resident apartments and common areas while demonstrating a caring and respectful attitude toward residents. Housekeeper must understand and follow standard precautions and infection control procedures.
General Guidelines
- Complete common area and apartment cleaning assignments as scheduled.
- Wash hands and apply gloves when entering apartment. Discard gloves and wash hands when leaving apartment.
- Use clean towels and mop covers in each apartment to avoid spreading germs from apartment to apartment.
- Clean top to bottom, right to left. Begin by dusting top corners, ceiling, blinds, tops of appliances and furniture. Finish by cleaning floors.
- Clean windows and patio doors with glass cleaner monthly. Clean patios and patio furniture once monthly.
- Use proper sanitizing chemicals and follow appropriate contact times. Apply chemicals in bathroom and kitchen first. Clean other rooms. Return to bathroom and kitchen to complete apartment.
- Pay special attention to finger prints and spills on high contact areas such as doorknobs, toilet handle, elevator buttons, light switches, doors etc.
- If resident refuses cleaning, notify your supervisor. If resident refuses more than once Director should be notified.
- Keep cart stocked, locked with all chemicals labeled.
- Go the extra mile and try to accommodate resident preferences/requests.
Bathroom
- Dust ceiling and light fixtures
- Use Morning Mist on all surfaces for 10 minute contact time.
- Thoroughly clean sink, vanity top, tub, shower stall, wall surfaces, toilet seat, water tank and bottom of fixture.
- Brush inside of toilet and under rim with bowl cleaner. Use separate toilet brush for each apartment.
- Clean mirror with glass cleaner and paper towel.
- Vacuum or Mop.
Bedroom
- Dust ceilings and top of all surfaces.
- Clean blinds and window sills.
- Strip bed or beds and make bed with clean linen. Follow instructions for hospital corners or according to resident preference.
- Dust baseboards.
- Vacuum floors, giving attention to corners.
Living Room
- Dust ceiling and blinds.
- Dust furniture and clean surfaces, moving non-breakable items. Do not dust or move breakable or collectable items.
- Dust baseboards.
- Vacuum paying attention to corners.
Kitchen
- Clean kitchen sink, counters, stove top, top of refrigerator, with sanitizer.
- Put any dishes in dishwasher and run it. Run garbage disposal and clean sink. Run dishwasher monthly with clean water even if it is not used for dishes.
- Clean doors, light switches, and walls. Clean baseboards.
- Mop or vacuum the floor.
Chemicals and Time to Disinfect:
Oxiver: (white bottle, purple liquid) disinfectant leave wet for at least 1 minute, use to clean apartments after move out and before new move in, use with residents who have Norovirus or C-Dif.
Virex II 256:( Light Blue) All-purpose disinfectant for non-wood surfaces such as counters, kitchen sink, allow to air dry for 10 minutes.
Glance NA (Blue like Windex) streak free for windows, mirrors and glass.
Morning Mist: (Blue) Disinfectant cleaner for bathrooms and floors. Kills MRSA/bacteria/viruses etc. Allow to air dry for 10 minutes. (replaces Triad)
Comet: powder in can, use in commode and to get stains and mildew, rinse off well
Speedball: (purple in white bottle) heavy duty cleaner for vacant apartments, equipment, base boards
Lemon Glo: in can for wood and resident furniture, best to spray on rag to avoid build up on furniture.
Impact: Deodorizer and disinfects, use in bathroom as needed for odor.
Scented deodorizer sprays rarely used; cleaning and sanitizing is better.
Water: keep water in a bottle labelled water. Use water and clean rag to get recent spills off carpet. Try cleaning with water alone first. If water is ineffective use General Purpose Spotter: spray on, blot off, rinse well using water.
Pink Foam Soap: use this dispenser to refill soap dispensers for handwashing.

1 bedroom 60 minutes
Alcove 45 minutes
