Location: SeaTac, WA (in person)

Salary: $35,000-45,000, part-time

African Community Housing & Development (ACHD) is a culturally-specific, community-founded organization led by visionary Black women and a community Board of Directors. ACHD works towards prosperity for the African Diaspora immigrant and refugee community through housing and social services, education programs, and economic development. ACHD staff speak a collective 10 languages, and the majority identify as Black or People of Color.

About the Position:

The Human Resources Manager plays an integral role in the internal function of the organization. This position will serve as an HR “jack-of-all-trades," leading hiring, onboarding, and internal HR processes.

Position Duties:

  • Benefits management, including medical, dental, life, and long-term disability insurance, Employee Assistance Program (EAP), and 401(k).
  • New hire reporting
  • Manage unemployment and FMLA administration
  • Handle agency ADA accommodation process
  • Ensure compliance with labor regulations
  • Coordinate staff training around ACHD policies and procedures
  • Assist with time sheets and leave management
  • Participate in annual wage and benefit surveys
  • Analyze pay and benefit structure
  • Manage new hire process, including:
  • Craft new job descriptions
  • Route personnel requisition forms for approval
  • Post job descriptions on BambooHR, website, and relevant industry job boards
  • Recruit candidates via LinkedIn, direct contact, word-of-mouth network activation, etc
  • Perform phone screens to confirm candidate eligibility
  • Schedule in-person interviews with relevant hiring committees
  • Request and check candidate references
  • Confirm candidate work history
  • Prepare offer letters
  • Answer general candidate questions
  • Schedule and perform new hire onboarding
  • Handle employee grievances
  • Process employee terminations
  • Update and manage HR policies and procedures as needed
  • Answer staff questions about BambooHR and internal policies and procedures as needed

Required Qualifications:

  • A commitment to providing racially equitable and anti-oppressive human resources services
  • Accuracy, strong organizational skills, and excellent attention to detail
  • Team player; comfortable working collaboratively in a multicultural environment
  • Powerful communication skills, both written and verbal
  • Ability to work compassionately and respectfully with diverse array of community members
  • Ability to handle multiple tasks and demands, establish priorities, manage deadlines, and work effectively in an energetic environment
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, especially Outlook and Word
  • Proficiency in human resources software systems
  • Fluency in English
  • Background check and proof of COVID vaccination will be required

Preferred Qualifications (not required):

  • Networks and relationships in, and knowledge of, the King County nonprofit landscape
  • Experience with BambooHR human resources software
  • Bachelor's degree in Human Resources, Nonprofit Administration, or related field
  • Masters degree or certification program completion in Nonprofit Administration, Human Resources, or related field
  • Fluency in a language other than English, especially Somali, Swahili, Oromo, Amharic, or Tigrinya

Supervisory Responsibilities: This position has no supervisory responsibilities.
