JOB DESCRIPTION

Summary/Objective

The Human Resources Specialist I is responsible for the overall administration and, coordination of the human resource function for Commercial, Ability One/SCA and Work Quest lines of business. This individual performs HR-related duties with latitude on a professional level and may carry out responsibilities in some, or all, of the following functional areas: maintaining confidentiality, employment, employee relations, labor relations, and onboarding. This position requires an extremely perceptive person who can relate to individuals at all levels located within WSC. This individual works in collaboration with managers to hire the best talent available emulating the mission, vision, and values of WSC in all phases of HR operations.

Essential Functions

  • Prepares job postings as required per collective bargaining agreement(s) (CBA’s) guidelines, staff personnel, and places at required locations per CBA, and on WSC website.
  • Recommends new approaches to continually improve efficiency of the department and services performed.
  • Maintains human resource information system records and uploading documents and logging interactions.
  • Handles onboarding of new employees including tours, timecard, and training of policies and procedures.
  • Reviews applications to match experience with specific job-related requirements, screens, and works with managers scheduling interviews, and recording notes during interview.
  • Makes offers of employment and checks references as required.
  • Ensures compliance with USCIS Form I-9 Employment Eligibility Verification; periodically audits Forms I-9
  • Manages and tracks all employee disciplinary actions in Human Resources Information System.
  • Provides unions appropriate new hire and termination information as required.
  • Assists in representing the company for any unemployment claims.
  • Responds to reference checks and verifications of employment status.
  • Handles resignations and / or terminations and exit interviews.
  • Provides day-to-day performance management guidance and makes recommendations to line management e.g., counseling, and disciplinary actions.
  • Assists in the management of complex employee relations issues, conducting effective, thorough and objective investigations.
  • Provides human resources policy guidelines and interpretations.
  • Makes recommendations to manager’s operation letter’s ensuring compliance with all federal, state, and local employment laws.
  • Maintains compliance with federal, state, and local laws and regulations.
  • Assists employees with completing leave requests and obtaining required documentation related to appropriate leave (FMLA, MLOA, Parental Bonding, LWOP, etc.)
  • Participates in recruiting efforts related to assigned lines of business including job fairs, partnerships with referral sources in the geographical area.
  • Assists other HR team members in fulfilling HR Functions and requests from employees.
  • All other functions assigned by supervisor.

Supervisory Responsibility

This position has no supervisory responsibilities.

Work Environment

This job operates in a professional office environment. This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, filing cabinets, and fax machines.

Physical Demands

This position is largely a sedentary role; however, while performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk or hear. The position also requires the ability to frequently stand, walk, sit, lift files, open filing cabinets, and bend or stand on a stool as necessary. The employee will occasionally lift 20 pounds.

Position Type/Expected Hours of Work

This is a full-time position, forty hours per work, Monday through Friday. Occasional overtime will be required.

Travel

This position requires onsite visits to geographical locations currently within Texas and Oklahoma. Some overnight is required.

Required Education and Experience

  • Three years’ recent, relevant work experience in a corporate human resource setting.
  • Experience with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, E-mail, and PowerPoint).

Preferred Education and Experience

  • Associate degree in management, human resources, or a related field.
  • Labor union experience.
  • SHRM Certified Professional.

Licenses/Work Authorization/Security Clearance

  • Valid Driver’s License with certificate of insurability (corporate auto policy).
  • Drug Screen.
  • NACI background check.
